Everything We Know About Fire Emblem Engage So Far (Mechanics, Emblems, & Characters)

The Avengers: Endgame for Fire Emblem fans.

Fire Emblem has become incredibly popular in the western market thanks to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which debuted on the Nintendo Switch. Since then, Fire Emblem has become a staple franchise for the Switch, as a Fire Emblem game is seemingly being released every year since then. Which is not a big deal for Fire Emblem fans, as that means more Fire Emblem can be enjoyed.

Now, with the latest Fire Emblem game called Fire Emblem: Engage being close to release, it’s time to get a recap on everything we know about latest Fire Emblem entry.

Engage sees the return of past Fire Emblem characters with the help of the Emblem Rings. Emblem Rings are essentially what you need to collect in order to summon popular Fire Emblem characters, like Byleth. You don’t really need to know everything about the Fire Emblem lore and its characters, but veteran players will definitely recognize some of the characters featured.

Fire Emblem Engage is a RTS game instead of the Musou style games that Fire Emblem sometimes do. With the RTS being the main gameplay loop, you can expect yourself to be having to figure out what weapon type is weak against, which leads to a thing we called Break in the games. It’s essentially what happens when you attack a character that is weak against a weapon type.

Fire Emblem Engage’s story also talks about why there are previous Fire Emblem characters in Engage. The story is set in the world of Elyos, which is made up of four realms. The four realms of Elyos teamed up together in order to defeat the Fell Dragon, a monstrous beast that terrorized the world. In order to do so, they used the Emblem Rings to summon powerful warriors from other worlds (which kind of confirms the multiverse Fire Emblem thing).

A thousand years later, the Fell Dragon is said to be returning. You take control of Alear, who has been asleep since the Fell Dragon was defeated, and only awakened once the Fell Dragon stirs. Alear’s special ability is to use the power of Emblem Rings, which lets them summon previous Fire Emblem warriors.
