We’ve all been new drivers in F1 23, learning each track and finding the best car and set up to get that podium finish. However, stepping up our game and driving skills will require us to remove any assistance the game offers for new or rookie players.

In this article, I will teach you the best way to master or learn how to use your race car without the Racing line, Traction control, Braking Assist, and ERS. These are the steps to becoming a real professional F1 driver in F1 23.

No Assists Guide

If you’re a new player in F1 23, you will notice in your first few races that the game is giving you some assistance. For instance, they allow players to use the Racing line as a guide for braking points and where their car should be in different sections of the race track.

If you want to step up your skills, check the following No Assist options below. Keep in mind that this will disable all options that help you control your car on the track. Continue reading the article if you think you’re ready to start racing without any assistance.

Disabled Racing Line Tips

Racing games like F1 23, Need For Speed, or Assetto has Racing lines to help players with the proper timing in braking and how to enter or exit corners in different racetracks. I recommend that you learn each track first before disabling your Racing Line.

Here are a few tips and tricks to help you master disabled Racing Line:

  1. First, the best way to enter a corner without the use of racing lines is from the outside to the inside. This technique is called “Hitting the apex”. Check the picture below to see where you should enter a corner and how to exit the corner. F1 23: No Assists GuideF1 23: No Assists Guide
  2. The second tip is to not accelerate too early coming out from the corner. If you do this, you will force your car to understeer and it won’t turn to a corner properly. You will end up on the grass or sand. F1 23: No Assists Guide
  3. The third tip is one of the hardest to master in the game. Using your environment, you can determine the perfect timing to brake when entering a corner. Check the pictures below on how to brake properly without the help of Racing lines. F1 23: No Assists Guide

This will take a while to learn since there are tons of tracks in the game. I recommend trying out each track and then starting to practice without the racing lines. Check your environment for braking points for every racetrack.

Braking and Disabled ABS Techniques

Braking is important especially when entering corners or preventing yourself from hitting another F1 car. Each F1 car in the game has an ABS or Anti Lock Braking System. This prevents all cars in the game to lock their tires while using the brakes. However, it has its disadvantages, especially in hard braking zones.

Below are the techniques when you disable your ABS. Feel free to check them out.

  1. The first technique is called Trail Braking. You can use this technique when entering hard braking zones to enter a corner at high speed. To do the technique, punch the brakes hard and gradually release the brakes as you enter the corner. F1 23: No Assists Guide
  2. When entering medium and low braking zones. Press the brakes gradually and do not press it in full braking force. Speed is the key when entering low to medium braking zones.
  3. Adjust your Front Brake Bias for better braking capabilities. The sweet spot for adjusting the Front Brake Bias is between 57% and 58%. F1 23: No Assists Guide
  4. Next is the Engine Braking. What you do is you shift down as fast as you could when entering a corner, slowing your car down in the process. You can use this technique with the Trail Braking technique. Keep in mind, this only works for players with Manual gears enabled.

I recommend disabling your ABS if you’re familiar with some of the braking points in different tracks. However, you can try all the techniques listed above and see for yourself if you’re comfortable driving with ABS disabled.

Traction Control and Acceleration Techniques

Acceleration is also the key to winning any race. Be sure to press the throttle at the right time and you can exit corners with ease or win against other F1 cars in straight lines. But the key to perfect traction control and acceleration is practice.

Check the techniques below to learn more about Traction Control and better Acceleration.

  1. To achieve better Traction Control, all you need to do is gradually apply the Throttle in entering or exiting a corner. However, this will take some practice.
  2. When accelerating, make sure your car is in a straight line. This will prevent your car from swerving to either side, especially after exiting from a corner. F1 cars are more stable when on lower engine revs. F1 23: No Assists Guide

The key to better acceleration and Traction control is finding the perfect timing when approaching corners and exits. Remember, flooring the throttle doesn’t mean its best in all situations. Punch the throttle in straight lines only.

ERS Management

The ERS or Energy Recovery System is found in the middle of the screen. This is what players use when activating the Overtake Button. It recharges every time you brake and drains when you accelerate. Enabling the Overtake System will give your car more power but at the cost of stability and more wheel spin.

There are 2 situations where ERS is applied:

  1. The first situation is when you want to overtake someone over a straight line. But, this will drain the battery quicker especially on long straight lines.
  2. The second situation is when you want to overtake someone when you enter or exit from a corner. You can activate the Overtake System if you think you are able to overtake the car without bumping into a wall. F1 23: No Assists Guide

DO NOT activate the ERS during rainy weather! This can cause your car to spin out when turning into a corner. However, if you want to risk it on a straight line and you think you can manage the car, feel free to do so. F1 23: No Assists Guide

I suggest that you practice with all the assists enabled first in different tracks before trying with the disabled assist. Learning the track and the capabilities of your car is the first step to becoming a professional F1 driver in the game.
