With the release of the Second Sea update in Fisch, a bunch of new fishing rods have come to the game! Some serve more as beginner options, while others become beneficial in the later stages. In this guide, I will rank all of the nine (9) rods in order based on their usability in terms of their stats, price, and passive abilities so you won’t have to!

Second Sea Fishing Rod Rankings
Free Spirit Rod

Price and Stats:
Price | 200,000E$ |
Lure Speed | 25% |
Luck | 150% |
Control | 0.15 |
Resilience | 10% |
Max Weight | 5,000kg |
Ability | This rod grants the player a chance to use Stab on fish when reeling. It also has a 20% chance to summon purple gemstones that apply Bloom (5x value) on each catch. |
The Free Spirit Rod ranks as the highest on this list for 2 reasons: it has a unique passive ability and great stats. Like the Azule of Lagoon, it has the Stab ability, which lets you catch fish relatively faster, PLUS granting the player a 20% chance to create gemstones that apply Bloom on the fish you catch. In other words, this fishing rod is a great money-making machine, even more so in the mid-game. Lastly, while the rod’s stats are nothing to write home about in comparison to the likes of the Great Dreamer Rod, it is very acceptable, especially if we consider its price.
The only downside, I would say, to getting this rod is having to complete at least 70% of the Second Sea bestiary. But I would argue that it’s worth it because of the Free Spirit Rod’s value in the long run.
Great Dreamer Rod

Price and Stats:
Price | 500,000E$ |
Lure Speed | 65% |
Luck | 80% |
Control | 0.12 |
Resilience | 12% |
Max Weight | 8,000kg |
Ability | This rod can summon Cthulhu. Once active, this being will help you catch a fish. This will only work for every time you catch two (2) fish. |
Right next to the Free Spirit Rod, the Great Dreamer stands out among the rest because of its good stats and interesting passive ability. Although, what places this rod in second place is its horrendous price and low Luck stat. The fact that you have to collect all of the Second Sea rods before you’re able to purchase this just adds more fuel to the flame. This doesn’t stop it from looking really cool, though!
Verdant Shear Rod

Price and Stats:
Price | 100,000E$ |
Lure Speed | 25% |
Luck | 150% |
Control | 0.15 |
Resilience | 10% |
Max Weight | 5,000kg |
Ability | This rod grants a 10% chance to grow a tree during the day. Each tree lasts 1 minute and gives a chance to catch Mother Nature, Green Leaf, Brown Wood. |
The Verdant Shear Rod places third because of its passive ability. For a relatively good price, you have access to a rod that grants you a 10% chance to get mutations that help you easily stack up on cash as you keep fishing—at least, in the daytime. This rod also possesses the highest Luck stat in the Second Sea, making it a good option if you pair it with Hasty.
Blazebringer Rod

Price and Stats:
Price | 70,000E$ |
Lure Speed | 10% |
Luck | 90% |
Control | 0.15 |
Resilience | 8% |
Max Weight | 5,000kg |
Ability | When you have 10 perfect catches, this rod gives 15% for Ember, 10% for Cracked, and +10 % Luck. If you reach 25 more perfect catches, it gives 100% for Ember, 5% for Emberflame, and +25% Luck. |
If there’s one word to describe this fishing rod, it would be “okay”. The Blazebringer, while having a cool-sounding passive ability, is not realistically viable. Unless you are a really good player, maintaining a perfect-catch streak can be difficult. Even more so if you want to take full advantage of the rod’s passive. While the Blazebringer has the potential to do great, it takes a huge amount of time and effort. Why do that when you could just use other, more reliable options instead?
Azure of Lagoon Rod

Price and Stats:
Price | 100,000E$ |
Lure Speed | 25% |
Luck | 105% |
Control | -0.01 |
Resilience | 55% |
Max Weight | 100,000kg |
Ability | This rod grants the player a chance to use Stab on fish when reeling. |
The Azure of Lagoon Rod boasts a Max Weight of 100,000kg—making it the highest among all the fishing rods in the Second Sea. Generally, this rod has really good stats and an understandable price to go with it. The reason for the rod’s low placement is its underwhelming passive ability. The Stab mechanic only lets you fish faster with no side bonus of earning more money. On the bright side, at least the Azure of Lagoon’s passive ability does not rely on chance. This makes it consistent and somewhat reliable compared to other rods on this list.
Frog Rod

Price and Stats:
Price | 12,000E$ |
Lure Speed | 20% |
Luck | 100% |
Control | 0.05 |
Resilience | 5% |
Max Weight | 650kg |
Ability | When a player has perfect catch streaks, this will summon Frogs around the player. Each of these Frogs grants +0.5x luck. Its maximum cap is at 3, which equates to +2.5x Luck. If you miss perfect catches, this will cause the Frogs to disappear one at a time. |
The Frog Rod’s passive ability is similar to that of the Blazebringer in the sense that it relies on getting perfect catches. While the rod’s base Luck stat is only 100%, if you can spawn all three Frogs, this can increase even further up to a whopping 250%! Not bad at all if we factor in its price as well. This can serve as another good option, even with its low stats.
Firefly Rod

Price and Stats:
Price | 9,500E$ |
Lure Speed | 75% |
Luck | 35% |
Control | -0.01 |
Resilience | 0% |
Max Weight | 175kg |
Ability | N/A |
As we move on to the last few rods on this list, my opinions regarding these three will mostly be the same. Neither of them has passive abilities to make them stand out. There are First Sea rods that are better options than the ones below. If you have enough money to buy one of the items from above, I highly recommend going for those as soon as possible.
Wildflower Rod

Price and Stats:
Price | 7,000E$ |
Lure Speed | 30% |
Luck | 55% |
Control | 0.07 |
Resilience | 12% |
Max Weight | 700kg |
Ability | N/A |
The reason why the Wildflower Rod is listed below the Firefly Rod is that I like the look of the other one more. Other than that, it’s just a personal preference.
Adventurer’s Rod

Price and Stats:
Price | Free |
Lure Speed | 10% |
Luck | 10% |
Control | 0 |
Resilience | 5% |
Max Weight | 104kg |
Ability | N/A |
Don’t use this rod at all.
