The new summer update for Genshin Impact added a lot of new exploration and quests, including ‘Capturing Light and Shadow.’ If you didn’t realize, this quest doesn’t even prompt if you don’t attempt to visit the location.
So keep reading and we’ll let you know how to get this quest and finish it.
Capturing Light and Shadow Guide
To get the quest, you need to head to the location as shown below. Ride the Choo-Choo cart that’s headed for the cave’s entrance that’d be blocked by a barrier.
Once you enter this place go up the stairs and a dialogue will happen that starts the quest. Follow the Hydro Eidolon and it’ll lead you to your first common chest in this cave. Read the diary fragment sitting next to the chest which is yet another note on complaints about how Akademia.
Keep following the Hydro Eidolon who’ll then turn on the Choo-Choo Cart to ride on. It’s obviously not somewhere that you couldn’t have just climbed up on your own in no time. But you need this eidolon, who’ll then leave the cart to unlock the first Streaming Projector.
And you can finally get a good look at the mural.
Now take the Four-Leaf Sigil in front of you here and go through the blasted wall in front of you. There’s going to be another barrier that you can’t go through, but you can take the path to the left.
Here, you’ll see a scared Hydro Eidolon surrounded by three fire torches. Put out the fire torches with Hydro power and it’ll start leading the way for you. Not far from here, the eidolon will unlock another common chest.
As it keeps going, it’ll teleport beyond a small water gate that you can’t go through. Look up, then take the Four Leaf Sigil and drop down. You’ll be in the same space as the eidolon and have to put out more torches.
As you continue, there’ll be more hilichurls that you have to kill to keep the eidolon going and another common chest. Keep following the eidolon until you end up at a Choo-Choo Cart and it will turn it on. Ride it and it’ll go through the series of barriers along the track, before it ends up at your second Streaming Projector.
Then we’ll move on to the next Streaming Projector. Look down and you’ll see this track that goes deeper into the cave. You’ll notice another eidolon being bullied by the hilichurls that needs saving. After saving it, it’ll lead the way.
The eidolon will try to head for the Choo-Choo Cart but you will be ambushed by hilichurls. Your new floating friend will turn into a Hydro summon to help with the fight and once you’re done, you can finally ride it.
And then the final Streaming Projector. Hit this for the Four Leaf Sigils that leads to the back of the area where you came from. This place previously had a barrier, but you can now go through it and the Hydro Eidolon will unlock an exquisite chest for you.
It’s going to stop at an interactable box of scrolls and paintings temporarily. That’s lore into the guy who came here after a long rant about the Akademia. He was at that point, one might dare say, a better person. People change, eh?
As usual, just follow the eidolon deeper into the cave until you end up at a Hydro totem puzzle. But not to worry – just activate two of them and your friend will do its magic to turn on the third one! That’s another common chest for you.
Beyond the gate are more hilichurls to kill before you get another common chest for this route. Keep following the eidolon and you’ll end up at another elemental totem puzzle, but this one’s a bit tricky.
The intended method here is to ask the eidolon’s help. Naturally, you will ask it to help with the hydro totem. Once you active the other two, the Hydro Eidolon will immediately activate the third one. However, it didn’t work and my guy just sat there and did absolutely nothing while staring at the hydro totem.
You can brute force this using Mona or Kokomi on the hydro totem, Xiangling for the fire totem, and then activate the cryo totem last. Mine probably bugged out.
Follow the eidolon out to the Choo-Choo cart that leads to the final Streaming Projector.
Now it’s time to Restore the Mural. Interact with any of the Projector to start the restoration, where you basically have to move around the murals to the correct spot on the mural.
After you deal with that, the Eidolons will gladly reveal the Luxurious Chest for you! You’ve finished the ‘Capturing Light and Shadow’ quest.
