If you’re new to the game or a fan of the hit anime series but want to try this out, I got you! This complete beginner’s guide to GHOUL://RE will help you kick things off without being too confused about the game. Hopefully by the end of this guide, not only will you progress much faster but enjoy playing it as well! Here’s a summary of what you’ll expect when you first start out.

Beginner’s Guide for Ghoul Re

Things to Consider

Ghoul Re, unlike other RPG games, has a perma-death feature. This means that a player may lose all of their character’s progress if their avatar dies in-game. So be careful not to lose all your hard work!

Two Character Options

When starting, you have two options to pick when choosing what kind of person you want your character to be. They are the following:

Ghoul

Ghouls are human-like creatures who can only survive by eating human flesh. There are different types of ghouls—all of which feature different abilities to choose from. More on that later. Your objective as a Ghoul is to target humans. This will allow you to level up much faster and progress towards a stronger character.

The CCG (Commission of Counter Ghoul) is a task force dedicated to bringing down Ghouls. CCG Investigators are highly-trained individuals possessing various technologies to combat their opponent’s abilities. Similarly, your job as an investigator is to clean the streets of Ghouls.

How to Progress

Ghouls

As a Ghoul, the first location you should head over to is Anteiku Cafe. This is where other Ghouls like you will be hanging out. Additionally, this is where you’ll be receiving your missions to increase your character level and so on.

The mission board can be found outside of the cafe

When you defeat other enemies, you gain RC (Red Child) Cells. These can only be found in Ghouls. The more you earn, the faster you can get a Kagune—a Ghoul’s predatory weapon that can be used for offense/defense.

To check how much experience you have earned, talk to the NPC named Hanazuki in Anteiku Cafe. This will display the following stats:

  • Grips – Determines if you have executed enemies.
  • EXP – Refers to the number of experience points earned from missions.
  • EventsAttended – Displays the number of events you have attended in your current rank.
  • EventsEXP – Total amount of experience points gained from events.

To keep track of how many RC cells you have, locate the Hospital on your map. There is a doctor NPC inside who will tell you the amount when you interact with him.

Humans

As a CCG Investigator, you will get details about your missions at the CCG Base. Talk to the NPC receptionist Saiyo Natsuki in the lobby to register as part of the CCG. It is also through her that you can check your progress similar to Hanazuki in Anteiku Cafe.

Just like how Ghouls progress, you must finish a bunch of tasks to increase your character level. The mission board can be found inside the building

The higher you go, the more you gain access to strong weapons called Quinque. These are armaments similar to the Kagune in terms of power and ability. These will serve as your primary form of damage when battling other NPCs and players.

How to Get Weapons

Kagune

As mentioned earlier, the amount of RC cells you have will determine when you get your first Kagune. The game requires you to earn 5,000 RC but there is a visual indication when you are ready. When your character’s health bar is at 50%, your screen will start to go red and various white text can be seen scrambled all over.

You can do this by having another player or an NPC hit you until it reaches half. Press Ctrl + E to activate your first Kagune!

Quinque

To get your first Quinque, you need to finish a few missions that will reward you with EXP and Yen (money) to buy one of the starter weapons. When you have everything you need, head over to this part of the building to choose which one you like. Thankfully, each weapon will only cost 100 Yen, making them very cheap.

Just like a Kagune, to equip a Quinque, remember to press Ctrl + E. This prompts your character to open the briefcase and hold the weapon in your hand.

Noteworthy Locations

Clothing Store

As you continue to play Ghoul Re, you will notice that your character shivers from time to time. When this happens, a brief stun period occurs which can hinder your movement or even lead you to lose an encounter with an enemy.

The solution is to head over to the Clothing Store to buy your desired apparel for your character. Clothes in this game are not only for aesthetics. They also grant a player some health buffs! When you equip any type of clothes, your health bar relatively increases.

Some outfits have requirements before you can purchase them. These outfits will also give bigger buffs. As a beginner, you don’t have to worry about this for now!

Art Studio

This location is mostly important for Ghoul players. When you eventually make your way up the ladder, you gain a lot of attention from other Human players wanting to take you down. To avoid losing your progress, you can buy masks from the Art Studio. These accessories will hide your identity on the leaderboards within the game. While this is also more beneficial for experienced players, it is important to take note of it regardless.

I hope my complete beginner’s guide to GHOUL://RE was enough to help you on your way to the top! Sure enough, getting there will take a major amount of grinding and other players may stop you along the way. But that’s what makes it fun.
