Alright, let’s talk about the Great Centipede, Blightweaver in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. If you’re reading this, chances are it either steamrolled you already — or you’re eyeing that creepy arena wondering, “How bad could it be?” Bad. But not unbeatable. This thing is massive, relentless, and loves slapping you with surprise attacks, status effects, and smoke bombs. But with the right setup and a bit of timing, this fight becomes way more manageable. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the build I used to beat it, the best ways to handle its two phases, how to dodge its trickiest moves, and a few key tips that will keep you from getting pancaked.

Great Centipede Blightweaver Boss Guide

Blightweaver – Great Centipede is a corrupted, centipede-like monstrosity lurking just past the Bandit Camp shrine. Think smoke, poison, glowing beams, and a lot of stomping. Its fight is divided into two phases, each with its own chaotic flavor.

This is your first real “What is that and why is it doing this to me?” moment in Wuchang. But it’s also a great boss for learning timing, dodging, and managing corruption — which becomes a big theme later in the game.

Weapon: Lashing Whip

Grab this just before the boss room. It’s a longsword with solid range and great synergy with strength and magic builds.

Skill Tree

  • Mana Capacity + Potency – More potions = more survivability
  • Longsword Tree – You’ll want both Wind Force (faster charged attacks) and Strong Blade (boosts your Lashing Whip to +2).

Gear

  • Armor with Corruption Resistance — trust me, you’ll thank yourself later.
  • Jade Pendants for extra resistance
  • Purple Camellia to cleanse corruption if it stacks up
  • At least 4 Gourd Charges — no cutting corners here.

Phase One Strategy: Pillar Power & Pattern Recognition

As soon as the fight starts: Dodge left. There are several stone pillars in the arena — and they’re more than just scenery.

Any time Blightweaver slams into one, it gets staggered and takes a good chunk of damage. That’s your opening to punish. Just be careful — if you’re standing too close, the pillar explosion will chunk you too. Dodge at the last second.

Key Moves to Watch

  • Screech: Back up and stay mobile. Use ranged spells (like Infernal Flames) while it winds up. Don’t get caught in the scream — it can stagger and expose you to combos.
  • Smoke Bomb: Corruption central. Run far away and wait it out. Do not try to tank this — it’ll quickly ruin your run.
  • Octagon Beam: Looks terrifying, but just lock on and walk in a wide circle. Clockwise or counter-clockwise, doesn’t matter. No need to roll, just strafe.
  • Peekaboo Dive: It burrows underground and tries to jump-scare you. Wait for the orange glow in the ground — dodge right as it flashes, and you’ll avoid the hit and earn a free feather for your trouble.
    • Tip: Dodge into it during melee combos. That usually puts you behind it, and most of its follow-ups will whiff, giving you free swings.

Phase Two: Chaos Dialed Up

You’ll know Phase 2 is starting when Blightweaver summons a cinematic AoE — kind of a slideshow moment. Sprint behind a pillar to block it safely.

Then things start getting spicy.

Earthly Burrow (Multi-hit Dive Attack)

The boss burrows and lunges at you four times in a row. There are three ways to handle this:

  1. Kite around a pillar — safest but takes time
  2. Run in a straight line — risky if your stamina’s low
  3. Best method? Stand still, count 1.5–2 seconds, and roll twice. The timing’s tight but super effective once you get it down.

Once the dive attacks end, the boss reverts to Phase 1 behavior. Rinse, repeat.

Extra Tips to Survive

  • Always dodge slightly toward and to the side of the boss. Staying at its sides is the safest spot.
  • If you get behind it, watch for the tail swipe — that thing is rude.
  • Don’t get greedy. One hit at a time is fine.
  • Watch for its Roar Grab — you’ll have to mash buttons if you get caught. Dodge back as soon as you hear the wind-up.

Still Too Weak? Here’s the Fix

If Blightweaver still feels impossible, chances are you’re underleveled or missing upgrades.

I’ve got a full guide on farming Red Mercury fast on the early-mid game — including where to go, what enemies to grind, and how to snowball your way to power. I’ll link it at the end of this article.

Upgrading your damage, mana pool, and potion count can make a night-and-day difference.

Blightweaver Weakness Chart

Blightweaver is very vulnerable to Poise Break. Equip the Bone Needle – Poise Break node in the Impetus Repository, and if you have the Vermillion War Club, its Misty Breath skill stacks Poise Break super fast. (Just note — it’s a preorder exclusive.)

Wrap-Up: Big Bug? No Big Deal

Like most Soulslike bosses, the trick to Blightweaver is consistency. Once you learn the patterns and stop panicking, you’ll be surprised how manageable it becomes.

  • Bait him into the pillars
  • Keep an eye on the corruption status
  • Use your upgraded Lashing Whip and spell pressure
  • Dodge smart, not spammy
  • And don’t forget to treat yourself to a nice clean feather when you dodge that dive right

Up next, if you haven’t fought Commander Honglan yet (or if she’s currently wiping the floor with you), you might want to check out my boss guide. She’s the first real skill check in the game, and trust me, it’s better to go in prepared. Even if you’re not there yet, go ahead and save it, future you will thank you.
