If you do see a locked door in the beginning stages of the game and wonder if you need a key or something for it, you most likely will need to actually lockpick it.
In this guide, we shall show you how to be able to do such a thing as well as how to unlock lockpicking itself. Let’s get started and show you what needs to be done first.
How to Open Locks – Hogwarts Legacy
There are a couple of things first that you need to do to be able to open up the locks. If you cannot open them, do not panic because it probably means you haven’t been playing through the main story enough.
Without further ado, here are all the things you need to do first to be able to open up the locks:
- You have to reach level 14 first
- You have to start the main quest named “The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament”
- Once you have completed that quest you are going to learn the Alohomora Spell which is basically a mini-game that will allow you to cast on locks and open them up
So basically keep on playing through the story until the next main quest will be the one shown in the picture above.
Now just find it on the map, follow the waypoint, and complete the quest. It is a very simple quest that will have you instantly just picking up the spell.
Make sure that you pass the current spell pattern however because if you fail you won’t get the spell unlocked.
How Does The Lockpicking Mini-Game Work
The locking might come off as fairly tricky because the instruction for it in-game is not very well explained. However that is the case, we here at ItemLevel always have you covered.
This is how you can lockpick and open up a Lock:
- Use the analog sticks during the mini-game to move the sparks in the inner and outer ring
- You need to move the sticks slowly in circles at the right angle which is shown by the elements in the center of the lock
- Once you have found the right positions for movement, you just need to stop and stay there
- A green spark will appear at the bottom right corner that will glow until the lock will open up
Once you keep doing it over and over again you’ll get the hang of it and it is very simple to do.
