Honor of Kings: Complete Heino Guide

Master the Head of the Fate Clan with this detailed guide!

Honor of Kings: Complete Heino Guide

There’s a new game in town and it’s Honor of Kings. It’s a free-to-play MOBA that you can conveniently play on your phone. If you’ve dabbled in games like DOTA, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, or League of Legends, transitioning to Honor of Kings will feel like second nature. However, true mastery demands more than just grasping its mechanics; it calls for a deep understanding of its heroes. If you’re eager to excel at playing Heino, I’m here to help you out with this guide!

Complete Heino Guide

Heino is a versatile mage who can switch from ranged to melee, adapting to different situations. That said, he can be played in Mid Lane and Clash Lane, depending on your playstyle. As a mage, he excels on his DPS Poke, while also capable at fighting close-range due to his skills. I won’t talk much about his playstyle but take note that Heino is very weak early game, and you’ll have to find ways for you to scale towards the late game.

SIDE NOTE: We also have a tier list for the best heroes in Honor of Kings, if you’re curious where Heino is placed, make sure to check it out as well!

Skills

As mentioned above, his skillset revolves around his form-switching (from ranged to melee, vice-versa). Changing your form will also apply to your Skill 1, which I’ll talk more in-detail below. I’ll also provide tooltips on how you can use his skills effectively and how they interact with each other.

Passive Skill – Fate’s Guidance

Honor of Kings Heino Passive Fate's Guidance

Basically, Heino has two forms; switching forms will transition your basic attack from melee to ranged, as well as change your Skill 1 and Skill 2. I’ll provide more details on how this mechanic works below.

  • Inflicting enemies with Heino’s skills and melee basic attacks applies marks that lasts for 7 seconds.
  • He can switch forms by simply attacking from a distance (range form; 100% physical attack damage and 15% magical attack damage) or attacking close to the target (melee form; 100% physical attack damage and 45% magical attack damage). You’ll have to use your skills effectively to use this mechanic efficiently depending on the situation.

Skill 1 – Scepter of Fate

Honor of Kings Heino Skill 1 Scepter of Fate

For Skill 1 Ranged Form, Heino throws a skill shot on a long straight line which deals magic damage. This skill will be your main source of DPS or damage output as a poke-type mage. You’ll have to spam and try to hit your enemies as much as possible. For Skill 1 Melee Form, Heino throws some sort of a boomerang skillshot in a shorter line compared to the ranged form, which hits a target up to 3 times.

  • Use this skill to easily clear minions and lanes.
  • For Ranged Skill 1: After getting hit for the first time, enemies will get marked. Moreover, marked targets get hit by an additional spear dealing more damage.
    • This means that hitting 4 enemies with your Skill 1 and reactivating this ability will insta-lock and shoot an additional spear for each of the 4 enemies. That said, try to efficiently hit as many enemies with your Skill 1 as possible.
      • What you can do to efficiently apply as much marks as fast as possible is to switch targets once you’ve already applied already a mark. Since the skill insta-locks anyway, you’ll hit them even when they’re far away from your current target as long as they are marked. Yes, even if you throw your Skill 1 into the air.
      • Also, keep in mind that you the more targets you hit with your Ranged Skill 1, the shorter its cooldown will be. And the longer the target has its mark procced, the more damage Ranged Skill 1 will deal.
  • For Melee Skill 1: Similarly to the Ranged Form, hitting a target for the first time will also apply a Mark. However, it doesn’t increase damage output but instead heals you for every hit, up to 3 instances.
    • This ability makes him an excellent frontline with lots of sustain; he can soak a lot of substantial damage especially with the addition of his ultimate.
  • For Both Forms: Keep in mind that you can utilize the mark applied from either form to use their effects. For example, apply Mark using Skill 1 Melee Form then change form to use the splash effect of the Ranged Skill 1 (Spear Throw).

Skill 2 – Leap of Fate

Honor of Kings Heino Skill 2 Leap of Fate

Heino’s Skill 2 is very straightforward; he dashes in a short-straight distance and leaves a mark for his ultimate. If there are no enemies nearby the landing point, he switches to ranged form (he doesn’t switch if he’s already in ranged form). If there are enemies on the landing point, he switches to melee form.

  • For Ranged Skill 2: After the dash, he receives a movement speed boost, which is increased depending on the number of heroes from your starting point – This makes the ability a good escaping or kiting tool. The effect is doubled when switching forms.
  • For Melee Skill 2: After the dash, he receives increased Armor and Magic Defense as well as healing, and increased health limit. The healing effect is increased depending on the number of enemy heroes on the landing point.

Skill 3 (Ultimate) – Fate Rewind

Honor of Kings Heino Skill 3 Fate Rewind

Heino leaves a mark at his last ranged position (Yes, the same mark from the Skill 2), reducing incoming damage, providing healing, and granting temporary invulnerability. After a delay, the mark detonates, dealing magical damage, and Heino returns to the marked location.

  • Basically, think of it as “going back in time”. The more damage you receive, the more healing you’ll get.
  • However, keep in mind that switching from Ranged Form to Melee form will not reset the placement of your mark through Skill 2. Same thing applies to changing from Melee Form to Ranged Form. The mark will only reset when reusing the Skill 2 Ranged Form.
  • Also, keep in mind that you can use Fate Rewind to bring back or repair destroyed towers, which is one of his most convenient skills. However, know that even if you use the ability on a destroyed Tier 3 tower, Super Minions from the enemy will still spawn.

Gameplay Tips

  • Dolia can refresh Heino’s Skill 1/Ultimate, enabling the hidden ultimate at its maximum level.
  • As mentioned above, you’ll have to find ways so that you can get as much gold as possible and scale through the later stages of the game. This includes:
    • Taking small enemy camps when you can.
    • Effectively roaming and doing effective decision making. However, keep in mind that you can’t do much when roaming since you don’t have setups like CC. Only roam to help out other lanes, respond or get kills.
    • Be patient, make sure you’re ahead and ready before going out there and dying for nothing.
  • If you’re playing Heino in the Clash Lane, utilize him as a split pusher due to his ability to quickly escape when enemy reinforcements arrive.
