You know what games need more nowadays? Large boss fights. I’m not talking about boss fights where you fight a large monster that is 10 or 15 feet taller than the main character. I’m talking about a large boss fight where the boss is so large, it makes the main character look like an ant. Shadow of the Colossus managed to become a cult classic because of its boss fights where you have to fight, well, colossi.
In Horizon Forbidden West’s DLC, Burning Shores, you get to fight a large machine, and we will show you how to defeat it.
Horus Boss Fight Guide – Horizon Forbidden West
Don’t be too intimidated by the size of Horus. Sure, it can crush you with a single stomp and is essentially the size of a cargo ship, but it does have weak points.
Under the body of Horus, you can find the Abdominal Heat Sink. With a machine this big, it will generate a lot of heat that if it is kept inside the Horus, it will most likely overheat the entire machine. That’s why the heat sink is there, to prevent the Horus from overheating. However, this proves to be its undoing as Aloy can destroy the heat sink and damage Horus.
While you are doing that, Horus will fire at you in an attempt to protect the heat sink. Not to mention that Horus is still moving while all of this is happening, so be sure to watch where you are going.
Horus will sometimes get stuck while you are fighting, allowing you to attack for a bit while it tries to unstuck itself. You will also have Seyka’s aerial support while all of this is happening too.
Once you have damaged and destroyed the heat sink, run away as fast as you can, because Horus will release an energy field that will fry Aloy.
Horus will then release Corruptors out to attack you. This is considered optional, but treat it as a main objective. These Corruptors will do nothing but attack you while you are attacking Horus. Deal with them now to save yourself the headache.
Once you have dealt with the Corruptors, you will now have to climb up the Horus to reach its second heat sink. You will need to time your climb because Horus will fire at you.
There will be moments when the vision of the guns will be blocked, which stops them from firing at you. Use this time to scale to the next safe location.
Once you reach the top, you will then have to expose the heat sink by zipping towards it and destroying the cover. With the new heat sink exposed, Aloy will have to take it down.
During the assault on the heat sink, the Horus will rain down mortar fire on you. Be sure to dodge the giant, red laser aiming at the ground. Once the heat sink is down, Horus will once again unleash another energy field. Run away as fast as you can.
With the heat sinks now destroyed, Horus will go into the water in an attempt to cool off. This will render Horus immobilized for the rest of the fight, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to stop. It will use its tentacles to try and reach Aloy to kill her. However, the tentacles also have their own heat sinks.
You will have to dodge the tentacles until they slam down to the ground. Once they do, the heat sinks will expose themselves. Quickly destroy the heat sinks when they do.
While the fight happens, Horus will rain down mortar fire and even use the gun on its head to mow you down. Make sure to keep running around to avoid fire.
With all of the heat sinks now gone, the primary heat sink will expose itself. Quickly destroy it, and Horus will go down. It’s not over yet, though, as you still have Londra to fight.
