To barter in Atomfall, you can talk to NPCs and see if the Barter option comes up in the dialogue options. You can then select it to open the Barter menu.
Next, you will need to select items that you want from the NPC and offer items to them. Doing so will change the position of the scales at the top of the menu. If the scale goes to the right, the trader is getting a better value. Similarly if it’s to the left, you’re getting a better value.
The more the scales are towards the trader, the higher they will be inclined to accept it.
The value of each item solely depends on the trader’s preferences. Some traders will prefer weapons while others will prefer gear. Similarly, traders will also value their inventory differently. For example, a barkeeper will be more willing to give you food because they actually have it.
You can test this out by offering different items and seeing how the scales tip.
Typically, if you want to complete a deal, your goal will be to get the scales as centered as possible. Ideally, you’ll want it to tilt towards the trader just a little bit so that they will accept the trade.
