Grounded 2 is currently in early access but features a decent chunk of content. As you approach the end game content, you can start to get some great weapons and armor sets. One of the Tier 3 armors that you can get is the Snail Shell Armor Set. However, this set can be difficult to get, especially because of its materials. Getting this armor set can help you, especially with future content. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how you can fulfill all of the requirements – including the locations of Garden Snail Fragments. Without further delay, let’s get into it!

How to Craft Tier 3 Snail Shell Armor Set

To craft the Snail Shell Armor Set, you will need to get the following materials in Grounded 2:

  • Garden Snail Fragments x12
  • Garden Snail Eyestalk x2
  • Lingonberry Leather x9
  • Silk Rope x2
  • Acid Gland x5

The Garden Snail Fragments are by far the hardest material to get. You might think that you can get it from the Snail. However, you need a Tier 3 Omni-Hammer to break the Snail Shell – which is currently not available in the game.

That means you need to get the Garden Snail Fragments from Chests in the Statue region. Unfortunately, you will only be able to access these chests once you’ve progressed through the end game story.

Some players have reported that you can blow up the Snail Shell by kiting an Orb Weaver. However, this method is unreliable and we have not been able to confirm whether it works. So, in this guide, we’ll go through all the chest locations and how you can get the other materials.

Keep in mind that you will need to get Garden Snail Fragments to unlock the Snail Shell Armor Set, and also craft it.

Garden Snail Fragments Chest Location #1

Starting off, the first chest that has Garden Snail Fragments can be found in the Ranger Outpost used to access the Statue region. This means that you will need to progress through the story until you get to this point.

Ranger Outpost Grounded 2

Enter the outpost via the door and you should see a chest with purple paint on it just inside next to a cardboard cutout. Open the chest and you’ll find x3 Garden Snail Fragments inside.

At this point, you can analyze it to unlock the Snail Shell Armor Set. However, you’ll need a lot more Fragments if you want to craft it.

Garden Snail Fragments Chest Location #2

As you progress deeper through the Statue region, go to the left side of the hedge that surrounds the statue. In this region, you should find a hole next to some flower bushes that you can go down.

Jump down or use the ladder to enter the hole. From there, use the lift to access Level B11. Next, go through the door on the left and you should see a chest against the wall.

Loot the chest and you’ll be able to get x3 Garden Snail Fragments.

For the next three chests, you will need to go through the Networking story quest. This will allow you to access all the areas with the chests.

If you’re having trouble with this part, you can check out our networking quest guide for Grounded 2.

Starting off, you’ll be making your way to the Network Center Entrance.

Here are the directions you need to follow:

  1. Climb the ladder to enter the Network Center
  2. Use the lift to go to Level 01
  3. Enter the door on the right of the reception desk
  4. Navigate through the left door
  5. Follow the path until you reach a room with fallen tables and chair
  6. Enter the room on the right and loot the chest.

Inside the chest, you’ll be able to find x3 Garden Snail Fragments.

Garden Snail Fragments Chest Location #4

After you get the third chest, use the lifts in the Network Center to reach Level 04. From here, navigate through the maze of servers until you reach a room with some computers. An ORC Spiderling will also attack you when you enter.

The chest will be all the way next to the wall at the back of the room. Loot it to get x3 Garden Snail Fragments.

At this point, you should have enough fragments to craft the Snail Shell Armor set. But we still recommend getting all of them.

Snail Armor Recipe Unlock

Once you have any Garden Snail Fragments, take them to the Resource Analyzer. Doing so will allow you to unlock the recipe for the Snail Armor Set. It includes the following components:

  • Snail Shell Casque
  • Snail Shell Plastron
  • Snail Shell Greaves.

We’ll go through the rest of the materials that you need to unlock each component next in the guide.

How To Get Garden Snail Eyestalk

To craft the Snail Shell Casque, you will need to get x2 Garden Snail Eyestalks. To get these, you will need to kill Garden Snails – which can be found all over the Grounded 2 map. It is a difficult insect to kill even though its passive, because it is invulnerable when it hides in its shell.

You can check out our how to kill garden snail guide for easy strategies that you can try at any point.

After you kill the snail, loot its body to get the Garden Snail Eyestalk. You will need to kill two of these snails to get the required materials.

How To Get Lingonberry Leather

Lingonberry Leather is a material that you need in all three components of the Tier 3 Snail Shell Armor Set. To get it, you first need to find Lingonberries, break them for chunks and analyze them to unlock the Lingonberry Leather recipe.

From there, you will be able to craft them.

Lingonberry Location

Lingonberries can be found in the bottom left corner of the Picnic Table region. You’ll find a bunch of bushes here with hanging Lingonberries.

Lingonberry location Grounded 2

Starting off, shoot down the Lingonberries with your bow and arrow so they fall to the ground. From there, use your Tier 2 Omni-Axe to chop the fallen berries.

From here, pick up all the Lingbonberry Chunks. Try to get a lot of these as you’ll need x28 Lingonberry Chunks to craft enough Lingonberry Leather. One of the chunks will be used for research.

If you run out of Lingonberries here, don’t worry as they tend to respawn here after some time.

Once you go to the bush, shoot down all the Lingonberries you can. Chop them and you’ll be able to pick up the Chunks.

Now all you need to do is simply craft the Lingonberry Leather. For every Lingonberry Leather, you will need x3 Lingonberry Chunks.

Try to craft x9 Lingonberry Leathers, so you are able to craft all the components of the Tier 3 Snail Shell Armor Set.

How To Get Silk Rope

You will need to get Silk Rope to craft the Snail Shell Greaves for the set. However, to do this, you need get Web Fiber, research it and craft it using the Spinning Wheel.

Let’s run you through the entire process.

Web Fiber Location

To find Web Fiber, you will need to locate Web Sacs. You can typically find these around Spiders in Grounded 2. A great location where you can find lots of it is under the Picnic Table, from the south side.

Navigate to the bottom of the table and you should be able to find plenty of Web Sacs. Attack them so they break and you’ll be able to pick up the Web Fiber from the ground. Just pick up a handful of them.

Silk Rope Recipe Unlock & Craft

Take the Web Fiber to a Research Analyzer so that you can unlock the Silk Rope recipe. You will also unlock the Spinning Wheel that you need to actually craft the Silk Rope.

So, make sure to build it as well.

Interact with the Spinning Wheel and you should find the Silk Rope recipe. Use the Web Fiber to craft Silk Rope. Since you need x2 Silk Rope, you can easily do this with just x1 Web Fiber.

Just one more material left!

How To Get Acid Gland

To craft the Snail Shell Plastron in the set, you’ll need to get Acid Glands. Typically, this material is a drop from the following insects:

  • Red Soldier Ants
  • Larva.

You can find these in various locations, including Anthills. The Hatchery Anthill in the Snackbar Front region is a place where you can find plenty of ants to kill.

An alternate location below near the Anthill also shows plenty of Larvae that you can kill to get Acid Glands. You won’t have to go inside the Anthill to get them – and Larvae are usually easier to kill.

After you kill the insect, simply loot the body and you should be able to get an Acid Gland. Make sure that you pick up x5 Acid Glands so that you can use it for the Snail Shell Armor Set.

Tier 3 Snail Shell Armor Set Crafting

Now that you have all the materials you need, go to your Workbench and you will be able to craft all the components you need for the Snail Shell Armor Set. Here is a breakdown of the materials each component requires:

  • Snail Shell Casque
    • Garden Snail Fragment x3
    • Garden Snail Eyestalk x2
    • Lingonberry Leather x2
  • Snail Shell Plastron
    • Garden Snail Fragment x5
    • Acid Gland x5
    • Lingonberry Leather x4
  • Snail Shell Greaves
    • Garden Snail Fragment x4
    • Lingonberry Leather x3
    • Silk Rope x2

With the Snail Shell Armor Set crafted, equip it and you’ll be able to get the following bonuses:

  • Retaliation (Set Bonus)
    • Blocked hits give your next charged melee a shockwave
    • Retaliation stacks up to 5 times, increasing charge attack speed and damage
  • Fighter Armor
    • Melee attacks generate more threat
  • Block Stun
    • Applies stun damage to targets.

So, if you’re a player who prefers using melee and parrying, this set will work out great for getting through the end game content of Grounded 2.

If you’d like to unlock more recipes that will help you in the end game, you’ll need to get all the Optical Disks. Check out our all optical disks locations guide so you can pick up all of them!

Wrap Up

That’s everything you need to know about how to craft the Tier 3 Snail Shell Armor Set. This set provides excellent protection for players that rely on melee and parrying. Unfortunately, you can only get this set later on since you need to progress through the final quest to get the Garden Snail Fragments. One worry though, is that there is no way to get them reliably, since it is not possible to break the Snail’s shell currently. Hopefully, with a future update, we will get access to the tool required. After all, you will need Garden Snail Fragments to be able to repair the Armor Set.
