In The Shadow of The Mine is one of the main quests you must do in Hogwarts Legacy. It’s part of Sebastian Sallow’s questline that will lead you to ultimately learn all of the Unforgivable Curses.
You can obtain this quest after completing Professor Weasley’s Assignment. In this guide, we’ll show you how you can complete the quest.
How to Complete the In The Shadow of The Mine Quest

After getting the quest, head to the Overlook indicated by the quest marker to meet Sebastian. You can find it northeast of Upper Hogsfield.
If you arrive at the location during the daytime, you can wait in the glowing circle to pass the time, as the quest can only be started at nighttime.

Speak with Sebastian, and he will tell you that this area is the one painted in the triptych and an abandoned mine filled with Ranrok’s Loyalists.
You will then be given a choice to infiltrate the mine stealthily with Disillusionment or go in and rain spells on those goblins.
Go down the hill to reach the entrance to the mines.
Along the way, you’ll come across two Ranrok’s Loyalist encampments. Deal with them as you wish to reach the Overlook Mine.

Inside the Overlook Mine, take the path to the left after defeating two Ranrok’s Loyalists near the entrance.
Slide down the slope with an Extreme Danger sign to progress further and land on an area with four Loyalists.
After clearing the room of enemies, use Wingardium Leviosa on a crate, then place it on a wall located west of the room to climb to the next area.
Slide down another slope by taking the path on the left. Upon landing, climb the ledge on the left, then use Reparo to repair the bridge.
There will be three Venomous Scurriour that will ambush you once you cross the bridge. Continue following the quest marker after defeating them.
Once you pass through the gap by crouching, you will be ambushed by another spider.
Crouch under another gap, and move along the path to find yourself in a large area. This time, you will face a group of Loyalists, some Thornback Spiders, and two Matriarchs.
After defeating them, get rid of the spiderwebs with Confringo/Incendio to find three rune symbols.
One is near the door, the other is on the ceiling, and the last is above the door on the left. Hit the three rune symbols quickly with a basic attack to unlock the door.
Go down the stairs and find yourself inside a small room. On the table is a journal entry from Isidora, and on the chest is the Second Triptych Canvas Piece that you need.
Talk to Sebastian Sallow, and after a brief exchange of words, head to a reflective wall located southeast of the room to reach the Undercroft.
In the Undercroft, place the canvas you retrieved on the triptych, then talk to Sebastian to complete the quest.
