Merlin is a legendary Wizard from the House of Slytherin. He left puzzles outside Hogwarts to allow wizards or witches to prove themselves by completing them.
These are the so-called Merlin Trials.
You can find one Merlin Trial near Jackdaw’s Tomb, and we will show you how to complete it.
How to Complete the Merlin Trial Near Jackdaw’s Tomb

Before you attempt to complete the trial, you need a Mallowsweet first. You can obtain it from Nora Treadwell through the main story quest.
However, you will eventually run out of it. If that’s the case, simply go to The Magic Neep which sells Mallowsweet and its seed.

With a Mallowsweet in hand, head over to the Merlin Trial east of Jackdaw’s Tomb Floo Flame. Once you reach the area, head to the stone plate and use a Mallowsweet to start the trial.

East of the plate is a tree with a giant spider web. Destroy the web with Confringo, then aim at the cauldron and cast Confringo to light it up.

A little north of the stone plate is another cauldron; light it up using Confringo. The last one is located west of the stone plate in the middle of two massive trees.
Same as the others, use Confringo to light it up.
Return to the stone plate, and a short cutscene will play where something will grow out of the plate, and a silhouette of Merlin will form at the center of it. This will then complete Merlin’s Trial.
