Live A Live: Perfect Trap Placement Guide

In order to be able to beat O Dio in the simplest possible way, setting up the traps perfectly is very important. It gets rid of all the additional mobs that’d otherwise spawn, and makes the fight that much easier. Let’s gather all the traps and then assign them in this Perfect Trap Placement Guide guide.

Perfect Trap Placement Guide – Live A Live

Our first assignment is to find and pick up all types of traps so that we can assign them and get rid of as many mobs as possible, prior to the encounter.

Only the necessary buildings are going to be mentioned below, as some are unnecessary and only contain items that aren’t going to be used in this guide. If you want to, you can visit these as well.

First Building – Crystal Saloon

We’ll start that by heading into the main building, also known as the “Crystal Saloon”.

In the bar room, speak to the kid called Billy first, he gives you a Slingshot. After that, you can pick up a healing item behind the bar if you want, however those aren’t too important.

Next off, go into the room on the right of the bar (next to the stairs) and pick up everything from there.

After you’ve done that, go into the room all the way on the left and grab what you can from there. Once you’ve done that, walk up to the lamp next to the cabinet and interact with it – this moves the cabinet, and lets you access the basement of the Saloon. This is very important as it gives you some very good items that you’re going to want to use in the boss fight.

Your characters move the cabinet as soon as you click “Examine”, so this part is quite simple.

When you’re done with the basement, visit the upper floor of the bar and go through all the rooms.

You won’t get many valuable things, however you should get through the interactions that occur there (one with Annie and one with the Barkeep).

2nd Building – Sheriff’s Office

You need most items from this building, so don’t leave anything behind.

In one of the boxes in the first room you’ll find a stick of dynamite, the “Peacemaker” gun and a strip of jerky (not too important, but you can still pick it up). When you’re done, head upstairs and pick up the “Buntline Special” gun from the cabinet next to the empty container.

3rd Building – Larder

In this building, you’re going to find a shovel, which is used for a “Pitfall Trap”, so make sure to pick it up. It’s located in the top right corner of the room. That’s all you’re going to need from the Larder.

For orientation purposes, the Larder building is here compared to the other 2 buildings we mentioned.

4th Building – The Inn/Diner

Next to the Larder building we just visited (on the left of it), you’ll find “The Inn” or “The Diner”, depending on what you want to call it.

In the first room, you’ll only find oil which, at this point, you don’t really need anymore as you already picked up some in the main building and made the one Molotov cocktail we’re going to need.

In the second room, however, are a frying pan and some carrots, both of which we need for traps.

5th Building – Wayne’s Boarding House

On the left of our previous building you’ll find the Boarding House.

You don’t need anything from the first room, but there’s a nicely hidden entrance in the second one.

Go through the door all the way to the left. You’ll see a staircase with a bunch of barrels and boxes around it – under the staircase (image below) is a door that is very easy to miss.

You want to get the “Bundle of Rope” from this room, as it’ll be used for a trap later on.

The circle marks the entrance to the room where you can find the “Bundle of Rope”.

6th Building – The Stables

From this building, we’re only looking for one unexpected item, which is a pile of horse feces.

I know, it doesn’t sound useful nor pleasant at all, but it is used for a trap so we need it regardless.

It’s not pretty, but it has to be done!

7th Building – The Storehouse

This will be the last building we visit before we set out to assign the traps to everyone.

Yet again, we don’t need a lot from this one except for the “Coal Tar”. It’s stored within a barrel, on the bottom right part of the Storehouse. The rest is not very useful for us.

Grab the Coal Tar and head back to the Crystal Saloon to assign traps to everyone! This concludes the placement part of this Perfect Trap placement guide.

Assigning the Traps

The first person you’ve to speak to is the Sheriff to go through the necessary conversation.

After that, speak with Billy (the kid) and assign him the “Slingshot”, which he gave you earlier.

Next up is Annie, who needs to have the “Frying Pan”. Those are the only two NPCs that need specific traps, the rest can be given to anyone but we’ll still go through them as well, just in case.

Walk up to the table of people below and start assigning each of them a trap. Make sure to avoid the guy with the green hair as he is the slowest of the group. Another one to avoid is the middle mariachi guy.

  • Wayne (blue hair) gets the “Bottled Fire” trap
  • Dallas (woman) gets the “Barkeep’s Beloved Poster
  • James (below Wayne) gets the “Dynamite
  • Clint, the only remaining one besides the green hair guy, gets the “Shovel
  • Sheriff gets the “Carrot
  • Sancho (first mariachi band member) gets the “Rope
  • Pancho (third mariachi band member) gets “Horse Shit
  • Barkeep gets the “Coal Tar

Before moving forward, do not forget to equip the new items you found earlier.

Sundown, your main character, should be equipped with “The Jacket”.

Mad Dog should be equipped with the “Peacemaker” and the “Buntline Special” respectively.

That’s all for our Perfect Trap placement guide. All you need to do now is wait out the time the game gives you to prepare for the encounter. If you don’t know how to win the upcoming fight with O Dio, don’t miss our guide for the encounter itself.
