Create your own MARVEL dream squad by selecting your favorite characters from the extensive selection of good guys and bad guys. MARVEL SNAP is a fast-paced, exciting, tactical card battler that places you in charge of everything and challenges you to make your move.

In this review, we will be looking at the good but also the bad sides of the game. Let’s see if it is worthy to be called a Marvel Game and if you should be playing it or not.

Is It Overrated or Worth the HYPE?  – Marvel Snap Review

The goal of the digital card game Marvel Snap is to be a fast-paced game with all of the greatest renowned Marvel good guys and bad guys, each with their own traits and special abilities. Each deck has 12 cards, and each one-on-one match takes a few minutes.

It’s a “control the area” game in which players fight to get the most strength in three zones with different rules by putting up to 4 characters in every zone. After 6 quick rounds, the winner is the individual who owns at least two of the zones.

To be able to better understand if this game is any good we will split it up into Pros and Cons sections.

Pros

We will start by talking about the good things about the game first, as usual.

Complex Strategix Matches

Very good tactical gameplay. It was a Marvel game and we expected much less in this aspect but this game didn’t come short at all to be honest. You will be getting a full-on tactical sort of even like Yu-Gi-Oh type of strategy.

You cannot just go on with throwing your cards on the field and in your enemy’s face. There are many counters and many types of attacks. You will find out lots of strategies like rushing or waiting for that perfect combination and so on.

You will be looking and learning at the cards and find out whether your enemy will play what you’re thinking only to fool you and play something entirely different. It is a very welcome surprise indeed.

Short Matches

You know how some card games can drag it on and make you feel tired at the later stages of the game where basically both players are just defending themselves and waiting for that 1 card that is going to decide how the game is going to end? Well, Marvel Snap isn’t like that at all.

Very little time to play (2-4 Minutes). If you’re losing, you can’t get a do-over, but if you concede, you lose fewer ELO points. It is short and sweet. You will come inside and jump into a fun game that is filled with excitement.

If it is going your way you can easily Concede and get on to the next one. If it is going your way you can be sure that it will be ending around 5 minutes and so on. Very good touch from the devs to keep it fast and smooth.

Skill To Win

The fairest CCG we have played in terms of money. All non-seasonal content is free to unlock. You can get a full collection even if you only play for free. For a small competitive edge, you would have to buy a $10 season path every month, for a total of $120 per year, which isn’t even half the price of a single Hearthstone expansion.

To be honest, this is what we were expecting that it’s going to be the biggest issue and problem of this game, but good job to the devs. It feels really fair and you can actually get what you’re worth not with a lot of grinding.

Plus on top of all that, the developers have stated and promised that there won’t be any additional type of monetization in the future. Can we believe them? If this is really the case then the future is very bright indeed.

Easy To Get Into

Card games can be scary because you might feel as though they will take you years to learn. Marvel Snap actually has a very good learning curve. You will be finding out new things as you go and with every match, you’ll get better and better slowly.

It has a gradual and simple learning curve, which makes it a great way to get into Collectible Card Games (CCG), especially for the large number of Marvel fans. It is simple to learn the basics but hard to truly perfect it so it finds a very good balance.

Unique & Interesting Cards

Marvel Snap has a lot of different cards and zones, each with their own special abilities and traits. The game also adds new content every season. The positive experience of getting rewards over and over in each game keeps you coming back for more.

It’s an excellent type of game for “collectors” who want to get every card and every version of every card in the game and raise the rarity of every card.

Cons

What are the bad things about Marvel Snap? Let’s see.

No Unranked Mode

As it is right now Marvel Snap does not have any ranking or even a Ranked Mode. You will be playing just with random players from the world and basically get matched up just by your level. Your level is determined by how long you’ve actually played, and not how good you are.

This is something that Marvel Snap lacks and we definitely will want to see something changed in the future. Having a Ranked mode is crucial in these types of games because everybody loves the challenge and to be playing against the best that this game has to offer.

Game Hides When You Play Versus Bots

We don’t actually understand why this is a thing but it is. Basically, the game won’t actually tell you whether you are playing against a player or not. This is especially very bad since the first 30 levels of the game you won’t be playing against humans at all.

So you will be left questioning yourself whether you actually defeated an AI or a player. Sometimes if things get easier you won’t know if you’re playing single-player or multiplayer really.

Hopefully, the devs will get working on this in the future and it won’t be an issue. It isn’t anything game-breaking just weird.

In-Game Progression System

Over months of weekly and daily quests and little bits of having to play here and there, progress is slowed down by force. You can’t earn content at your own pace; you have to play when they tell you to.

You won’t be able to sit down and play all day and get everything that you want. You will be left with just a couple of things to unlock as daily quests and weeklies. But once you finish this you will be left off with basically waiting for days to come.

If you are anything like a hardcore gamer and want to progress through the game as fast as possible in just a couple of this, you will consider this a big Con.

Bugs And Issues

Since it is a new game it has a couple of rushedout mechanics and basically bugs. You will see visual glitching and sometimes cards will get stuck on the field or not play at all. Sometimes you will get stuck in a loop where the music is playing on its own while nothing is happening.

Also, a big problem is that Steam and Google accounts do not actually link. Players have been having issues with this and lots of them have been making two accounts and then only to get blocked for 30 days for trying to link them.

Also, the PC variant of the game isn’t really all that polished and lacks what we have been promised from before. It just feels like a client that is running an emulator game. Plus, you will sometimes even need to install the APP just so you are able to do more things.

Also, it can launch on Steam Deck but it constantly says that it cannot connect to servers at all.

Overall & Rating

So overall this game is enjoyable addicting and worth your time. If you are just starting out, hit Play before you link your Google account. Then, get the mobile app, sign in along with your Google account, and go to the Snap News section of the game to claim your rewards.

Summary

You will be having a blast and enjoy the interesting cards that have stunning visuals too. You will be learning slowly as you go since it has a good learning curve and the short matches are a blast. There are issues right now as it is a new game but they are not all that big and plus the developers promise a lot in the future. So far Marvel Snap is a 4 out of 5.
