Megabonk Bonks Its Way Past Borderlands 4 & Call of Duty With 110,000 Players – And It’s Made By Just One Guy

This one-man project just bonked its way past the gaming giants.

Move over, Borderlands 4 — the new king of chaos isn’t a big-budget looter shooter, it’s a game literally called Big-budget shooters beware — the latest game topping Steam charts isn’t Call of Duty or Borderlands 4. It’s Megabonk.

In just two short weeks, this 3D “Vampire Survivors but completely unhinged” indie has gone nuclear, smashing past 115,000+ concurrent players on Steam and racking up over a million sales in less than two weeks. That’s not just impressive — that’s “how is this not made by a full studio?” impressive. Except… it’s not.

It’s all the work of one solo developer, known as vedinad, who’s now probably enjoying the finest spaghetti money can buy. (“Extra sauce tonight,” they tweeted, followed by “The extra sauce was delicious”, and honestly, fair.)

From a Bonk to a Bombshell

Megabonk might sound silly — and it absolutely is — but it’s that perfect mix of ridiculous and refined that makes it impossible to stop playing. You choose from 20 over-the-top characters, including a barbarian who could bench-press a bear and a literal skateboarding skeleton that Reddit has lovingly nicknamed “Bony Hawk.”

Then it’s chaos time: swarms of enemies flood in, upgrades stack faster than your brain can process, and suddenly it’s 4 a.m. and you’re wondering where your responsibilities went.

As one player perfectly summed it up:

“Got it thinking I’d play for 15 minutes. Looked up — it was 7 hours later.”

Another just said, “This game deleted my sense of time.”

Bonking the Big Guns

According to SteamDB, Megabonk recently hit 117,000 concurrent players, putting it in Steam’s top 10 most-played games and #6 in top sellers — above Borderlands 4 and even Call of Duty for daily active players.

That’s a massive deal. Gearbox’s shooter launched strong across platforms, but it’s currently struggling with PC performance issues, while Megabonk is just… vibing. Cheap, smooth, addictive — the holy trinity.

Community Going Wild

Over on Reddit, the hype is real.

“Great job for this solo dev!”
“He made $8 million bonks, good for him.”
“How can I say no to a skateboarding skeleton??”

Even players who claim they don’t like Vampire Survivors-likes are falling in love with Megabonk’s slick movement, bunny-hopping combat, and Source-engine-style mobility. One user called it “the perfect mashup of dopamine farming and roguelike chaos.”

Meanwhile, Twitch can’t get enough of it — with over 100,000 peak viewers this week and streamers calling it “pure brain rot in the best way possible.”

A Million Bonks Later

Megabonk’s momentum isn’t slowing down. With Very Positive reviews (94%), a huge modding and meme community already forming, and new content teased by vedinad, it’s looking like the next Vampire Survivors-tier phenomenon.

So yeah — for under ten bucks, you too can lose your weekend, your plans, and possibly your sleep schedule.

Megabonk is out now on Steam for $9.99 / £8.50, and if you haven’t checked out its inspiration yet, Vampire Survivors is currently 25% off in the Steam Autumn Sale.
