MultiVersus is finally getting released. Fans all over the world have been waiting for the official release of this free to play brawler. It will come out on Steam and on consoles such as PS4 & PS5 and Xbox One & Series X | S.
MultiVersus has characters from multiple Warner Bros franchises ranging from Tom and Jerry to Batman and the Joker. And each character has unique gameplay mechanics and they perform differently depending on if you are in a 1v1 or 2v2 match. That is why this post will provide a Character Tier List for both 1v1 and 2v2.
Best Character Tier List
Before I get started with the Tier Lists, I want to mention that you can now get the character called Agent Smith for free. To find out more, check this guide out: MultiVersus: How To Get Agent Smith For Free. Hurry up and get it before it is no longer available.
Now to get back to our main topic. One thing you should know is that the game is not yet out so the Tier Lists given below may not be 100% accurate when the game actually releases. Plus, there will also be updates in the future which will probably change how some characters perform.
With that said, the Tier Lists given below should still give you a pretty good idea of which character is good or not. Personally, I will suggest you give every character a chance and decide for yourself which character suits your playstyle more.
Tier List for 1v1
Following is the Character Tier List for the 1v1 mode:
S Tier
- Jake The Dog
- Class: Bruiser.
- A very well rounded Bruiser who is capable of doing a decent amount of damage. His attacks have good range as well. He is capable of controlling the complete pace of the match. That is why he is one of the best characters in the game.
- Superman
- Class: Tank.
- Superman has very fast attacks with good damage. Not to mention Ice Breath which is capable of destroying every projectile in the game. And his Heat Vision is very hard to avoid. All of this makes Superman a force to be reckoned with.
- Harley Quinn
- Class: Assassin.
- Harley is a lightweight character with extremely good mobility. Her attacks are fast and she is more of an attack and run type of character. This can be pretty useful in juggling your opponents.
- Her CONFETTI TIME! passive is also pretty useful. After maxing it out on an enemy, it will ignite them.
- Joker
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Joker is a decently flexible character and his attacks have good range as well.
A Tier
- Arya Stark
- Class: Assassin.
- Arya is pretty good in pressuring your opponent with her fast and relentless attacks. She has some pretty slick combos. However, her attacks are short ranged so you have to keep that in mind when using her.
- Wonder Woman
- Class: Tank.
- Wonder Woman is one of the best tanks in the game. You will not be disappointed if you go with her. Her kill attacks are a bit noticeable which makes it easy to avoid them.
- Batman
- Class: Bruiser.
- The most powerful aspect of Batman is his Batarang attack which offers a good range and is fast. Paired with his other attacks, he can deal pretty hefty damage. However, characters that can defend against his Batarang may prove troublesome.
- Finn The Human
- Class: Assassin.
- Finn’s Backpack attack is very powerful and can cause a decent amount of damage. He is also capable of moving while charging his ground attacks.
- Shaggy
- Class: Bruiser.
- Shaggy is very flexible and can deal with pretty much any situation. This aspect of Shaggy makes him a pretty good choice.
- Rick
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Rick has pretty awesome sweet screen control and fast projectiles. Unless your opponent has a way to deal with the projectiles (like Superman), you will find Rick very strong.
- Banana Guard
- Class: Bruiser.
- Banana Guard has a pretty simple kit and is an easy character to master.
B Tier
- Bugs Bunny
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Bugs has a wide variety of attacks at his disposal which makes him pretty efficient in tactics like baiting, zoning and trapping. One thing while using Bugs is you have to keep an eye on the cooldown of his skills.
- Reindog
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Reindog has no cooldown on its projectiles which is one of its strong points. However, Reindog lacks the kill power required to compete with characters of the above tiers.
- Stripe
- Class: Assassin.
- Stripe has good juggling and screen control however most of his attacks are slow but they at least provide a decent range.
- Gizmo
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Gizmo has pretty mixed opinions as some say he is decent while others outright say he is one of the worst characters. However, he is capable of doing some very good combos.
- Marvin The Martian
- Class: Assassin.
- Marvin’s main strength is his projectiles which can easily transition into combos or kills. If your opponent can deal with the projectiles, you will have a comparatively harder time.
- Tom And Jerry
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Tom & Jerry has some very nice combos that deal a decent amount of damage. Tom uses Jerry as a projectile which is also very useful.
- The main weakness Tom & Jerry have is that they are extremely lightweight and their recovery is pretty bad as well.
- Garnet
- Class: Bruiser.
- Garnet is pretty versatile and has some decent attacks. But once your opponent learns to deal with your armor, you will start to struggle.
- Lebron
- Class: Bruiser.
- Lebron is a balanced character that fares decently in 1v1 matches. His Basket Projectiles come in pretty handy in taking over the battle area.
- The biggest weakness of Lebron is his recovery which is pretty bad.
Side Note: To have the most fun in the game, you must set up your game in the best way possible. If you do not know how to do that, then check out this guide for help: MultiVersus: Best Setting Guide
C Tier
- Morty
- Class: Bruiser.
- Despite being a good 2v2 character, Morty attacks lack the power needed for a good 1v1 character.
- Taz
- Class: Bruiser.
- Taz has good attacks but once figured out, he can easily be dealt with. Also his recovery is not that great either.
D Tier
- Steven Universe
- Class: Tank.
- Steven is capable of taking a lot of damage and his shield helps a lot with that. But his overall skills are very clunky for faring against better 1v1 characters.
- Velma
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Velma is a hit and run type of character but her attacks deal very small damage. Which makes her struggle in getting kills. Her recovery is also nothing to write home about. That is why she is not that great of a choice for 1v1 matches.
- The Iron Giant
- Class: Tank.
- The Iron Giant is a tank character so he is more geared towards providing support. This doesn’t make him an ideal choice for 1v1 fights.
- Black Adam
- Class: Bruiser.
- Black Adam offers decent ranged and close combat attacks but one of his offsetting weaknesses is that his attacks do not cause enough knockback or damage. And his most powerful attacks can be easily canceled.
- He is pretty bad at getting kills because of his low damage attacks.
Side Note: By now you are aware that this game offers a wide variety of characters with different classes. Choosing a character as a main can be a very tough choice. But do not worry, we are here to help you out with that. Give this guide a quick read: MultiVersus: What Character Should You Start With?
Tier List for 2v2
Following is the Character Tier List for the 2v2 mode:
S Tier
- Wonder Woman
- Class: Tank.
- Wonder Woman is capable of controlling the pace of the match pretty well. She provides a huge amount of armor which allows her to match with pretty much any character.
- Superman
- Class: Tank.
- Superman is pretty strong on his own which makes him an ideal teammate. If paired with a good team, he can be unstoppable.
- Velma
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Despite being a bad 1v1 character, 2v2 matches is where Velma truly shines. Her support skills are extremely useful in 2v2 matches which makes her one of the best 2v2 characters in the game.
- Morty
- Class: Bruiser.
- Morty is a very good 2v2 character as he offers impressive screen control, decent hitboxes, fast recovery and also being able to save your ally.
- Jake The Dog
- Class: Bruiser.
- Jake is capable of doing a hefty amount of damage and his screen control makes him one of the best 2v2 characters.
- Harley Quinn
- Class: Assassin.
- Harley works really well with fast paced characters such as Batman, Finn or Arya as they can pressure the opponents. This in turn allows Harley to build her passive.
- Other than that, she also does well with characters that rely on projectiles such as Tom & Jerry, Morty or Lebron.
- Joker
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- A pretty useful and chaotic character to have on the team for a 2v2 match.
A Tier
- Arya Stark
- Class: Assassin.
- Arya works well with characters that can keep up with her speed and take care of her low range weakness. Batman is a good choice. Heavy characters like Wonder Woman, Garnet and The Iron Giant pair with her well too.
- Stripe
- Class: Assassin.
- Stripe adds much more chaos to the already chaotic 2v2 match. This allows for pressure to be built on the opponents keeping them at the edge of their seats.
- Rick
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Rick is a solid 2v2 player with its screen control abilities and overall versatility.
- Batman
- Class: Bruiser.
- Batman is capable of applying Weakened on your opponents so characters that can take advantage of this by dealing a high amount of damage can be pretty good teammates.
- Superman, Harley Quinn, Taz, Velma and Tom & Jerry can work well with Batman.
- Bugs Bunny
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- One of the best things about Bugs is that he is capable of working well with pretty much every character there is.
- Finn The Human
- Class: Assassin.
- When your opponent takes damage by Finn’s Coins, Coins will be dropped which you and your ally can pick. These picked up Coins can then be used to get buffs for you and your ally.
- Steven Universe
- Class: Tank.
- With the right teammate who is capable of dealing good damage, Steven can be a gamechanger. His shields are nothing to laugh at.
- Shaggy
- Class: Bruiser.
- Shaggy offers good kill power and with the right team, you can count on him to deal a hefty amount of damage with his charged skills.
- Tom And Jerry
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Tom & Jerry provides good screen control which makes them a decent enough choice for 2v2 matches.
- Marvin The Martian
- Class: Assassin.
- It is much harder to counter Marvin’s projectiles in a 2v2 match so this makes him a very powerful option for 2v2 mode.
- Banana Guard
- Class: Bruiser.
- Banana Guard is able to deal a good amount of damage. And not only that, he can buff himself to deal even more damage which allows him to get decent kills.
B Tier
- Reindog
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- Reindog offers decent support in 2v2 matches but you can not leave it to fend on its own for long when the opponent catches it.
- Taz
- Class: Bruiser.
- Taz’s Chew ‘Em Up, Spit ‘Em Out skills is pretty useful as you can eat projectiles coming your way. His kill power is also reliably good.
- Lebron
- Class: Bruiser.
- Lebron can be very useful in finishing off enemies by dunking on them from an ally’s pass.
- Gizmo
- Class: Mage | Ranged.
- One of Gizmo’s skills is to mount on your ally. This can be both beneficial and a huge drawback. It offers a very huge range benefit but if your ally gets knocked away while you are mounting him, you will be knocked out as well. There’s also the case when you accidently mount your ally while you are doing a combo.
- The Iron Giant
- Class: Tank.
- The Iron Giant’s rage mode is very useful in 2v2 fights. The giant works well with fast paced characters who can stagger opponents with their combos. Or characters like Steven Universe and Velma who make the strong points of the giant even stronger.
- Garnet
- Class: Bruiser.
- Garnet is good at handling 1v2 situations as her attacks can hit both opponents at the same time.
C Tier
- Black Adam
- Class: Bruiser.
- Black Adam can be used with powerful characters such as Bugs Bunny, Shaggy and Taz. Characters that are good at juggling can also be paired with him such as Harley Quinn and Arya Stark.
