Once Human allows you to collect all sorts of deviations that have varying functions, ranging from manual labor to straight up acting as combat companions. Most of them require power to function, and you can speed up their recovery times through varying means. In this guide, we’ll cover how you can meet the “Toy” requirement that some deviations have!
How to Get Toys (Place Toys Around for Deviants)
Simply put, all you need to do in order to activate this buff is to turn on build mode and create any toy near your isolated securement units. As long as it’s close enough, a single toy should cover multiple of them at once.
How do you get these, however? Well, that part is a little complicated. Here are two different ways I can confirm will absolutely work, starting with the simplest one:
Method #1. Buying The Plush Toy from Season Shop
If you press escape and check your seasonal goals, there is a “Season Shop” button on the upper right corner of the screen. Here, you will be able to spend Mitsuko’s Marks and Starchrom on various items.
Under the Furniture Formula category, you will find the Plush Toy formula that costs 1,000 Starchrom. This item is confirmed to work for the deviant recovery bonus. It requires 4 Shabby Fabric, 2 Rubber, and 1 Waste Plastic to craft the actual thing.
NOTE: I would personally not recommend this method unless you desperately want to get the bonus. Starchrom is a very valuable resource, and I would rather spend it on blueprints or gacha rolls at the Wish Machine instead.
Method #2. Getting A Lucky Loot Drop
The second method isn’t really much of a guaranteed way to get it, but in higher level regions (think Chalk Peak or Red Sands), there is a chance to get a formula for various toys modeled after different enemy types.
I cannot tell you exactly where I got mine, but I did get a random drop for a Model IX while roaming in my free time, which is a replica of the elite enemy that carries a mirror around to reflect your shots. There are various other examples from other players too.
If I were you, I’d try my luck finding one of these by roaming the higher-level zones rather than spending Starchrom on the Plush Toy. Of course, nothing is stopping you from doing it that way if you so desire.
From the example I’ve taken for you below, this Model IX figure can activate the “Toy” buff for all units at pretty much around four foundations worth of tiles, if not more. The same should apply to any other toy in the game.
That is pretty much everything you need to know about toys in this game. Unless there is a shop out there that sells them for energy links, it’s all about luck or Starchrom, basically. While you’re here, check out our guide on how to find the Flame Essence deviant in Once Human, as it benefits from the toy buff as well!
