Crafting games will always have a wide arrangement of consumables that you can either pick up or make from scratch, which is exactly the reason why it can get confusing at times when playing a game like Smalland. The more you progress through the game, the more items and crafting stations get introduced to you.

In this Ultimate Resource Guide, you’ll figure things out for yourself as you find out more about the tools and items that you will need now while keeping whatever you have for later safely stored in the small shack you just built that’s being attacked by killer spiders, what? It can happen!

Ultimate Resource Guide – Smalland

Given that the game is telling you to go outside and touch the grass, you’re expected to explore various biomes that have their obstacles that you’ll have to come across.

Most of it will include you not dying for something bigger than you, but during times of peace, the best thing to do is to get to know the materials you can use to help you on your journey.

Flint and Bark

The first resource you’ll want to get your hands on will be Flint.

Head south of where you originally spawned towards the beach biome and find smooth black rocks that bear a striking resemblance to Play-Doh sticking out of the sand.

A pickaxe will be required if you ever want to take some home with you so don’t leave home without one! There’s bark scattered around too so might as well make the most out of your trip right?

Nectar and Petal

Next up is Nectar and Petal, you can find them just north of the beach where you’re currently at, or over at Drustana.

What you’ll be looking for are red flowers that can be hacked using your crude axe. Do be careful as some of the flowers are surrounded by busy bees who simply wish to work without being rudely interrupted. The punishment for doing so is death.

Garlic Leaf

If you don’t have a bed or like the idea of eating pudding made out of Garlic, then what you’ll be looking for next would be Hedge Garlic, they’re quite close to where you can find the Nectar and Petals.

You’ll know it’s Hedge Garlic if you see stalks that have white buds sitting on top.

Insect Fur and Honey Crumble

Head southwest from Drustana to find these yellow bulbs on the ground, you can also gather them from the nearby bees if you’re feeling more adventurous.

They do drop Insect Fur which is still quite useful, you do get more honey to crumble from the ground with little to no risk, however.

Chitin

Since we’re talking about killing insects, the next resource you’ll want to have nearby is Chitin.

You can get these from Sawyer Beetles by shooting at them from a distance with your bow. You’ll need this resource to make an axe for yourself so yes, you definitely will get involved in more fights the more you go around the Overland.

Iron Shard

Onwards to the modern age! Having better gear is what you’ll need to prioritize later on if you want to survive the Overland’s many challenges, so head north of Lisandra to the western corner of the map to find some Scrap Metal lying around the dirt.

Do be careful as this place is riddled with cockroaches and hornets, the game really likes the idea of you having to fight for better gear, doesn’t it?

Silk

A very important resource that you need to get a good lot of while you’re farming iron shards, it’s in the same place but instead, you have to go down the drain where even more cockroaches are along with spiders.

You can get the silk from destroying spider eggs, gather enough of these and you’ll be able to craft the loom for your armor upgrades!

Herptile Hide and Bone

If you’re still around the beach then surely you’ve seen some Geckos nearby. You can get both resources easily by using a sword to easily dispatch the Geckos and gain access to their hide and bones.

They’re not rare creatures so you’ll have plenty of resources eventually, you should feel bad for killing one too many of them though since they just keep to themselves, but hey, it’s all about survival, and in this world, its people with hands who usually live longer!

Clay

A late-game resource, head further southeast from the beach where Skadi is and you can find lumps of it stuck on cliffs near the Mangrove Castle area. You still need the pickaxe if you ever want to scrape these off the walls so keep that in mind!

That’s all the resources available in the game at the moment, more will be added soon as the game is still in early access but at least you now know where to go whenever you’re short on something!

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
