There’s been a lot of rumors and talks surrounding the companions in this new DLC. Although there aren’t many guides or how to’s about it, i’ve managed to get the required info to save you the trouble of looking for their info.

Let’s get started.

Lost Valley DLC – Solasta Crown of the Magister : Companion Stats & Info

Main thing to be clear before we start. None of the companion are very impactful combat wise. In this terms, Krim is the best due to having a ranged bow attack. But speaking overall Catpaw is probably the best due to dropping the best loot when she is inevitably one-shot.

1. Lord Hammond

  • Fighter: 12 HP 15 AC
  • Special: Has the Fighter 2nd Wind ability for for a 1d10+2 self-heal, but usually dies before you can ever use it.
  • Attack is melee only using a **Greatsword: 2d6 +5
  • Hammond can throw daggers, so he does have a ranged attack
  • Seems to have disadvantage on Stealth.
  • Drops: Scale mail, dagger, 1 ration of food, and 2 * 50 Gold pieces (100 GP total.)
  • **Does not drop Greatsword he uses.

Thoughts: Glass Canon. Might be good alongside a Barbarian constantly using Reckless attack to pull aggro but otherwise dies fast. I’m guessing I didn’t notice Hammond could throw daggers because the range is pretty short. If that’s right, then although he does technically have a ranged attack option, it won’t change much because short range you still probably can’t easily or reliably keep him out of aggro range. And thrown daggers will not have impressive dps.

2. Krim Sunsail:

  • Ranger: 15 HP 15 AC
  • Special: Undead as Racial Enemy for +1d8 bonus dmg
  • Attacks are:
  • Melee – Dualwield Shortswords: 1d6 +5 / each
  • Ranged! – Shortbow: 1d6 +2
  • Drops: Studded Leather, Shortbow, 1 x Shortsword, 1 ration of food, 2 GP

Thoughts: Only one of the 3 that has a [viable] ranged attack. The Ranged attack makes it easier to have him actually help in fights without dying. So Best if you actually want to keep the companion for a while.

Note: about his bow attack: Using his ranged attack is very finicky since the UI automatically wants to move in for a melee attack and there’s only one attack button. My work around is to first move him enough that he no longer is able to move into melee range, causing the UI to default to ranged attack.

3. Leyrin Catpaw:

  • Thief: 10 HP 15 AC
  • Special: Dagger +1 and Can Sneak Attack. But lvl 1 so no other Thief abilities like Cunning Action.
  • Attack is: Melee only – Dagger +1: 1d4 +7
  • Drops: Chain Shirt, (Magnificent) Dagger +1, Gold Bracelet (value 35), 1 ration of food, 2 GP.

The weakest combat wise, but by far best for min/max play, because when she inevitably dies the drop gives you a Dagger +1 in the early game, which has a value of 800 GP. Chain Shirt is also useful as it doesn’t have disadvantage on Stealth.
