Sony and NCSoft are bringing the post-apocalyptic Horizon universe to mobile with a brand-new MMO. Horizon Steel Frontiers is being developed specifically for mobile devices, with cross-platform support for PC, but skipping consoles entirely.
The announcement comes directly from Korea’s premier game conference, G-Star 2025 and Horizon Steel Frontiers’ official channels, including their YouTube page and social media accounts, which feature a more than 10-minute video showcasing cinematic sequences, pre-alpha gameplay, and developer interviews. In addition, a 3-minute gameplay trailer has been released showcasing action-packed combat and exploration.
Players will be able to hunt massive mechanical beasts alongside other players, craft their own characters, and engage in cooperative and competitive activities across the expansive world of the Deathlands, inspired by Arizona and New Mexico.
Mobile-First Horizon

“Horizon Steel Frontiers is a full-fledged MMORPG that NCSoft has built specifically for mobile,” said Jan-Bart van Beek, Studio Director at Guerrilla Games. “With Steel Frontiers, you can step into this world anywhere, anytime.”
Instead of playing as Aloy, players create their own avatars and navigate a frontier shared with thousands of others. The game blends cooperative machine hunts with competitive challenges over resources and territory, creating dynamic, unscripted moments.
The Thrill of the Hunt

Executive Producer Sung-Gu Lee emphasizes the series’ signature action: “The core concept of Horizon Steel Frontiers can be summed up in one phrase: the thrill of taking down colossal machines. Hunting massive machines was one of the greatest appeals of the original Horizon series. And now, we’re expanding that experience into an MMORPG.”
New combat mechanics allow players to pick up weapons dropped by defeated machines and use mounts to carry them into later battles, expanding strategic gameplay in ways unique to the MMO format.
PC Support, Mobile First

While the game will also be playable on PC through NCSoft’s PURPLE platform, its design philosophy centers on mobile, meaning optimized touch controls, scalable performance for iOS and Android, and gameplay sessions built for handheld experiences.
This represents Sony’s most ambitious mobile adaptation yet, reflecting the growing importance of mobile gaming in Asia and worldwide.
Release and Availability – It’s Coming “Soon”
No official release date has been announced. Developers say they’re working to make the game available “as soon as possible.” All official trailers, gameplay footage, and developer interviews are now available on the Horizon Steel Frontiers’ official website, social media platforms and official YouTube channel.
Quick Take
With Horizon Steel Frontiers, Sony and NCSoft are taking a bold step: bringing a AAA Horizon MMO to mobile first, allowing players to experience giant-machine hunts on the go. While console players may be left waiting, this mobile-focused approach could reshape how Horizon is experienced globally.
