There are a lot of amazing indie games out there that have so much content that they can rival Triple-A games. That’s because the passion and drive of independent developers are rarely seen in the bigger corporate world.
One of the biggest Indie games, Stardew Valley has recently had a big update despite the developer saying he wouldn’t do anymore. He just really loves developing the game it seems and the players are loving it!
In this guide, we’ll show you how to find Grandpa’s Secret Room which is one of the additions in the 1.6 update. We’ll also go through what the Final Path is and how you can complete it!
Grandpa’s Secret Room & The Final Path Guide
The new 1.6 update has added a new secret room in the game that is more for the end-game players. Most people don’t expect to do this at the start of the game or even in the first year. If you’re far in the game already, here’s how to find Grandpa’s Secret Room!
SIDE NOTE: That’s not the only addition to the game in the 1.6 release, here’s a guide on where to find the Books of Power if you haven’t already!
Grandpa’s Secret Room Location
To find Grandpa’s Secret Room, you’ll want to go to the Cindersnap Forest which is south of your farm. If you don’t remember, that’s where the Hat Merchant lives, as well as Leah, Marnie, Jas, and Shane.
When you reach the Cindersnap Forest, go to the southeastern area of it across the river. North of the sewers is where you’ll find the door shown below. This is the new area that’s been added with the update.
When you interact with it, most likely you’ll get a message that says, “Only a Master of the five ways may enter.” The ‘5 ways’ are the five different professions: Farming, Mining, Foraging, Fishing, and Combat.
To unlock this door, you’ll need to have Level 10 on each of the 5 skills in the game. That means max level, but don’t worry you don’t need to pick any specific perk to open this door.
Once you’ve mastered the five ways, you can enter the new room. There, you’ll find a pedestal and 5 interactable wall carvings. To the bottom right of the room is a note that your Grandpa left you.
The Final Path Mechanics
Now that you know how to find the Secret Room, how does it work? When you interact with the pedestal in the middle, you’ll see the “Final Path” progress bar. This is a bar that you fill up by gaining Experience Points.
You can gain these experience points with any of the professions. This can be from chopping down trees, mining, fishing, farming, and even combat. So, as you play the game, you’ll gradually get more EXP to fill the bar up.
You can check the bar’s progress by going to the Skills tab in the Menu. There, under your skills is the Mastery Level and you’ll get a Mastery star once you fill it up.
You can also get a notification at the lower left of the screen that says, “You’ve reached a new level of understanding…” That means you’ve gotten a mastery star that you can then use in the secret room.
Profession Masteries
When you fill up the Mastery bar, you can go back to the Secret Room and interact with the wall carvings there. Those are the different Profession Masteries that you can get in the game. You can use a star to claim them and get the bonuses.
Farming Mastery
- Iridium Scythe – You will get the Iridium Scythe tool that can harvest any crop with a single swing. You also get more hay when using this tool and the arc of gathering is massive.
- Statue Of Blessings – You can place this statue on your farm and get a unique blessing when you interact with it every day.
- Golden Animal Crackers – It can permanently double a farm animal’s produce, but sadly it doesn’t work for pigs.
Fishing Mastery
- Advanced Iridium Rod – An even better rod than the standard Iridium one. It also can equip two bobbers!
- Challenge Bait – When you use this bait and get a perfect catch, it triples the fish. The catch is every time the fish escapes the bar the catch is reduced.
- Golden Fishing Chests – You can now get golden fishing chests when you fish around the world!
Foraging Mastery
- Mystic Tree Seed – You can now craft the Mystic Tree Seed. The tree when fully grown can be chopped down for a lot of Hardwood.
- Treasure Totem – You learn the Treasure Totem recipe. When you use it, you’ll summon a ring of treasure spots. The circle has 16 tiles around you. So, it’s best to use it on the beach or your farm.
- Golden Mystery Boxes – You can now have a chance to find Golden Mystery Boxes which can give you superior items!
Mining Mastery
- Statue of the Dwarf King – You can place this statue on your farm and choose from two mining-related powers each day. This can be either an increased chance to get coal or +1 to ore gathered from nodes.
- Heavy Furnace – You get the recipe for a heavy furnace that is way more efficient than a regular one using 25 pieces of ore for 3 coal. If you used normal furnaces, it would have used 5 coal.
- More Gems – When you break gem-bearing rocks, it now grants twice the gems. For those who are wondering, this stacks with the Geologist perk!
Combat Mastery
- Anvil – You get the recipe to make an anvil that lets you re-forge trinkets. This will randomize the stats and will cost 3 Iridium Bars.
- Mini-Forge – You can now make a mini-forge that acts as the Dwarvish Forge in Ginger Island. Now, you don’t need to go there to upgrade your tools!
- New Equipment Slots – You can now get trinkets when fighting and you can equip it with the new Trinket slot.
Completing The 5 Masteries
When you finally get all of the masteries and unlock all of the bonuses, you’ll get a nice little message from the game. It’s not something that has any impact on the game itself, but it is a heart-warming one. That’s why I won’t spoil it for you, you’ll have to find it out yourself!
That’s where you can find Grandpa’s Secret Room in Stardew Valley’s 1.6 update. Now, go out there and master the 5 ways and make Grandpa proud! There is a lot more stuff added with this update. Here’s a guide on how to get the Blue Grass recipe if you haven’t found it already!
