Zonai Batteries are a new mechanic added in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that power the constructs that players build using components such as fans, etc. This guide will focus on upgrading your Zonai batteries and doubling their charge.
How to Upgrade & Double Zonai Batteries
This guide will first focus on the maximum number of Zonai Batteries and how many Crystallised Charges are required. Then we will focus on two farming methods for Zonaite, which involve autosaving and farming minibosses.
Maximum Number of Batteries
The first important thing to understand is that you can hold a maximum of 16 Zonai Batteries. Although the meter shows 8 batteries, this is the first layer to be fully upgraded using 2100 Crystallized Charges.
The additional 8 batteries obtained are added on top of the base layer, changing the color of the batteries from green to blue. Additionally, the overall is also increased, resulting in your contraptions lasting for longer periods. The second layer requires 2400 Crystallized Charges to be fully upgraded.
You will need 4500 Crystallized Charges to max out your Zonai Batteries fully.
Autosaving
This method will involve you heading down to the Great Abandoned Central Mine.
Head over to the Forge Construct, and here you can trade Zonaite for large and small crystallized charges. A large charge is equivalent to 20 small charges making them more efficient.
To kickstart this method, you need to get your hands on a sizeable amount of Zonaite. Zonaite can be farmed in the Mining Cave as well in the Depths.
Once you have a reasonable amount of Zonaite, head back to the Forge Construct and use the gathered Zonaite to purchase all the large Crystallized Charges that are available. Once this is done, save the game manually.
After saving the game, manually drop a piece of wood on the ground and throw a fire fruit on it to create a campfire. After creating the campfire, interact with it and wait until morning.
Once the time passes, you will notice that the game is autosaving in the bottom left. Once the autosave is finished, load the autosave, and you will see that the shelves in the Forge Construct have been restocked. This method can be used repeatedly and even works with the latest patch.
Mini Bosses
The second method involves farming the mini bosses scattered around the Depth. These bosses drop Crystallized Charges in addition to other loot. The best path is the one marked on the map that forms a circular pattern.
These bosses include Hinoxes, Stalknoxes, Stone Taluses, Froxes, Flux Constructs, and Lynels. The Lynel is optional since it is a tough enemy and is also armored.
For this method to be as efficient as possible, we recommend activating all the Lightroots in the surrounding area since it will increase the map visibility and allow fast travel between these points.
Furthermore, a good strategy is to build a Hoverbike that uses 9 Zonaite. This can be used for traveling from one boss location to another if you have not unlocked enough Lightroots.
Before fighting the bosses, the last thing to consider is to ensure you have good weapons and sufficient food in your inventory since you will be fighting these bosses in a single go to maximize the number of charges earned.
To start fast travel to the Stakijat Lightroot and head to the nearest Mini Boss on the map using the Hoverbike. Once that is defeated, head to the next boss and use the Lightroots along the way to cut on traveling time.
This rotation of bosses will result in you ending up with close to 240 Crystallized Charges in total. This doesn’t include the many monster camps and Zonaite ore you will find while traveling from boss to boss, so that the actual amount can be higher. These enemies and bosses will respawn after a Blood Moon so you can farm them again.
To upgrade your Zonai Batteries, go to the Steward Construct near the Nacoyah Shrine or the Construct near Lookout Landing. Talk to the construct to upgrade your batteries and enjoy the increased capacity. Let us know in the comments below if you have any questions or suggestions.
