The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a huge open world that you can explore and see content. Shrines, villages, enemies, quests, all of these can either be hard to find or easy to see. However, there is one quest that every player should do, and it’s Mattison’s Independence. This takes place in Tarrey Town, where we will see Hudson and Rhondson watch their daughter start her journey to be a Gerudo vai. In this guide, I will show you how you can complete this wholesome quest.
Mattison’s Independence Guide
As mentioned before, the quest will take place primarily in Tarrey Town, which is in the Akkala region, so head straight there. The coordinates are 3944, 1594, 0128. Once there, go to Hudson Construction, which is your old pal Hudson’s base of operations for his business.
Once there, approach Hudson and Rhondson and speak to them. They will have a short conversation first about their daughter before they notice you. They then recognize you and start talking to you about their daughter, Mattison. Rhondson will cut the conversation off, and Hudson will walk away. Follow him.
Once Hudson stops moving, talk to him again. He will go into detail about his daughter, Mattison. He mentions that Gerudo has a law that they cannot associate with men until they come of age, and that they send Gerudo to pick up children and take them back to Gerudo Town.
This is obviously very heartbreaking for Hudson. He wants to spend time with her, but he can’t due to his work. Rhondson is also busy as well, so that means both parents are unable to spend time with their child. However, that’s why Link is there.
To talk to Mattison, you will need to go up the stairs of Hudson Construction and open the door. Mattison will be learning how to speak Gerudo while you enter. Talk to her, and she will ask you to accompany her while she teaches people how to speak the language of Gerudo. She will then lead the way, so just follow her.
Mattison will lead you to Granny Monari, who will be quizzed on Gerudo words. She will ask her this question, so make sure to pick out the correct answer to help her:
- What is the Gerudo word for “granny”? – Vaba!
After answering the question, Mattison will then ride the rail car to visit Hudson at the job site. Follow her.
When you get to the rail car, you will notice that Mattison is a little down. Turns out that the person in charge of the rail car won’t let her go down to visit her father until she pays. So instead of being an upstanding citizen and helping her pay for the toll, you will instead have to find a way to cover his eyes.
There will be a large wooden board leaning on the house right behind Mattison. Use Ultrahand and turn it sideways and place it in front of the rail car guy. He won’t do anything and will just stand there, unable to walk around. Go back to Mattison and tell her that she can go.
Once Mattison rides the rail car, jump off the platform and glide towards Hudson’s construction site.
Talk to Mattison she will tell you that Hudson is trying to think of a color for the hot air balloon. Hudson will eventually settle on yellow, like the color of the sun. However, he will need Sundelions to make the dye.
Sundelions are common everywhere, but they are much more common on the Floating Islands. You can find some Sundelions on coordinates 2930, -2902, 1212.
Return to Hudson and give him the Sundelions. After this, you will get a couple minutes of cutscenes that shows a heartfelt moment between a family. Make sure to bring a box of tissues for this, but after that, the quest will automatically complete.
That’s all you need to know on completing Mattison’s Independence. Did you manage to complete the quest and help Mattison spend time with her dad? Let us know in the comments below.
