Strategies differ in Tower Defense X for many players, with some believing in top path farming and others, bottom path farming.
Others like to balance their builds, going 7:3 between bottom and top, or 1:1. We’re going to talk about how and why top path farming is so strong in TDX.
The Top Path Farms Strategy
The farm strat is one of the most famous methods a lot of players love to use. Instead of damaging, the farms provide extra money or heals for your base.
You do this by first getting 1-2 bottom path farms, then convert all 10-12 farms to top path surrounded by your most expensive towers.
Before we talk about the strategy, here are the numbers for Farms:
- Unit cost: $525
- Initial cash/wave: $100
- Top path upgrade cost: $50 > $100 > $3000 > $9750 > $12500
- Bottom path upgrade cost: $775 > $1250 > $1850 > $4000 > $12750
Level | Top Path | Bottom Path |
1 | Crates drop 50% faster | $200 cash/wave |
2 | $120 cash/wave | $500 cash/wave |
3 | $270 cash/wave, +25HP per crate | $875 cash/wave |
4 | $445 cash/wave, +2% of nearby towers value | $1425 cash/wave, +$100 wave bonus |
5 | $1445 cash/wave, +100HP per crate | $1725 cash/wave, 2 crates per drop |
The upgrade stats of the bottom path seems pretty lucrative especially with the 2 crates per drop. However, the bottom path has a fixed earning while top path has unlimited possibilities. This is thanks to the +2% of nearby towers value that can mean the farm making even 2.5x bottom path farms!
On top of that, the crates heal 100 HP per crate which drops faster, even though they technically have the same drop rate.
The problem with this strategy is, is it map dependent? Kind of. You need to be able to setup the farms as such that you can have many towers built around them and benefit from it. And this might not be effective for some lanes.
And that’s how you can have as much money as you want in Tower Defense X using the top path Farm strategy!
