Playing as vehicles in a war game can be a bit of an adjustment for some. Usually, vehicles were optional and you could always just go on foot as a soldier. Games like Battlefield, Call of Duty, and many more usually have vehicles as an optional way of fighting. However, War Thunder is 100% vehicle on vehicle combat. No foot soldiers, just pure steel fighting each other. Playing as the usually optional vehicles will know doubt throw anyone into confusion, so it’s completely normal. But that’s why guides exist. Let’s see how to Sherman in this M4A1 76 Guide.
How To Sherman – War Thunder M4A1 76
The M4A1 76 is a rank three, medium class, American tank. It has a battle rating of 4.7 for realistic battles. The tank is high profile and hiding it can be difficult. Your enemies can easily spot you from afar, so stealth is a difficult option for this tank. In towns, it’s even harder to hide behind obstacles, as the tank is higher than most covers in the area.
The armor also has some disadvantages. The front plate can deflect enemy shots if the shots aren’t over 100 millimeters. The round shape of the hull above the treks is the biggest weakness of the tank. Any round can penetrate the hull and immediately down your entire crew, or even blow up the tank.
It’s better to not rely on the armor to save you from enemy artillery. Instead, use your environment to your advantage. Hills provide great cover if you angle yourself correctly so that you can pop in and out of cover to take quick shots at enemy tanks.
It’s also worth noting that the tank is not very fast. You can get to your destinations no problem, but fleeing from the battle will get you shot, as the top speed is not meant for running away. The reverse speed is even worse, so there’s no easy way of backing out of a fight.
Just like its name suggests, the M4A1 76 has a 76 millimeters gun, coupled with M62 shells. When you can research the M62 shell, research it as soon as possible. The gun, combined with the M62 shell (which has a 149 millimeters of penetration), you can take down most tanks with a single, well placed shot.
The fast reload of 5.9 seconds, coupled with the stabilization of this tank, the M4A1 76 can be a force to reckon with. Even against stronger foes, the M4A1 76 can do some serious damage.
