Elden Ring Nightreign offers a unique standalone experience to what players are accustomed to with the main game and DLC. With a focus on multiplayer and cooperation, you will be able to face on challenges with other players. However, like any From Software game, there must be some way to progress in the game. This is where Relics can play an important role. Still not sure what relics do and how you can obtain them? We will address everything we know so far about them in this guide. Without further delay, let’s get into it!

What Are RELICS?

Elden Ring Nightreign is a roguelite which means it works a bit differently from the main game. So, the game features both in-game progression and permanent progression that can last between different runs.

Typically, most gears and items you obtain within a single run are lost once you return to the Roundtable Hold. However, you keep relics permanently and you can use them to improve your characters continuously across multiple runs.

As a result, relics offer a more long term progression path that you can use to gradually improve your power.

Of course, relics aren’t just used for power. They can also be used to adapt to certain builds. As you progress through the game, you might gain a preference for a certain build. For example, a support player might want to improve healing while a DPS character might want to buff damage.

In this way, you can use relics to optimize your build and make your character more efficient.

How To Acquire Relics

You primarily earn relics as rewards at the end of each run. The quality and quantity of relics that you get will depend on your performance.

You will get a pool of randomly generated relics at the end to choose from irrespective of if you win or die against the Night Boss.

You can also purchase Relics with the in game currency, known as Murk, from the Roundtable Hold. At the Roundtable Hold, you can also equip and manage your collected relics. This area serves as the game’s central hub with a dedicated Relic menu.

Once equipped, the effects of the Relics are active throughout the run and are not consumed.

Relic Slots

There are eight playable characters in Elden Ring Nightreign, known as Nightfarers. Each Nightfarer comes with a set number of slots for equipping relics.

There are three relic slots that you can equip per Nightfarer.

On top of that, each relic slot is colorcoded. This means that you can only equip the Relic whose color matches that specific slot. The colors are: Yellow, Red, Green and Blue.

The purpose of this restriction is to add an element of strategy when building your character.

Here are some examples of color coded relic slots for some Nightfarers:

  • Wylder: Red, Red, Blue
  • Guardian: Red, Red, Yellow
  • Duchess: Green, Green, Green
  • Recluse: Green, Green, Red

Keep in mind that you do have the ability to change the color of these relic slots. You can do this by spending currency at the Small Jar Bazaar NPC.

Relic Effects

Relics come with different types of complexities and they can have up to three random passive effects. The number of these bonuses is effected by the quality of the relic.

Here is a breakdown of the types of relics and their effects:

  • Delicate
    • One passive bonus
  • Polished
    • Two passive bonuses
  • Grand
    • Three passive bonuses.

These effects can vary greatly from general boosts to specific abilities. Some of them have benefits that apply universally while others are specific to certain Nightfarers. For example, you can have a relic that gives status effects like blood loss while others that only benefit the Duchess’s abilities.

The effects listed on all relics are randomized. Keep in mind that there is chance of generating a random unique passive effect suited to a specific Nightfarer.

In this way, you can mix and match different types of relics to create diverse approaches to combat and your character. You’ll be able to customize character long terms beyond the temporary gear you get during expeditions.
