One unique feature in the new JRPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is the base building mechanic that is actually an integral part of the story as well. This will come early on following the fairly lengthy prologue that is to be expected from the genre, and in this guide, we will show you what you have to do leading up to this point and once you get the castle to yourself.
What to Do After Getting Castle Base
Following your group’s retreat after a certain part of the story, you will find yourself raising a resistance army from scraps. You will eventually be in a place that will become your base of operations throughout the game.
Once the ruins have been built back up following the cutscene, make your way to the great hall to trigger another scene where you will be introduced to some new NPCs. After that, pick any of the three names for the castle to proceed with the story.
This will mark the beginning of the Hoist the Alliance Banner quest, which seems to be confusing a lot of players due to its vague requirements. We’ll get through everything you need to know to finish it in the following sections below.
So, after naming your castle, you are free to explore the area and interact with each of the NPCs that can be found all around the place. Do this to familiarize yourself with all of its initial features, since you will be coming back here a lot.
Especially important is Iris, who will give you access to the Drafting Studio. This is where you will be upgrading various aspects of your base later on as you recruit more allies and gather resources.
Recruiting the Two Dwarves
Before you step out of the main building, head through the northern door at the center of the first floor. You will then find yourself in a courtyard. Interact with the well immediately to your right.
This will bring you down to the abandoned mine. Feel free to save nearby just in case. After that, proceed straight down south and you will eventually find Ormond.
Before he will agree to join you, he’ll ask you to bring him three pieces of ore. Wander around until you can get enough to satisfy him.
In the meantime, you can backtrack through the rest of the abandoned mine to recruit Galdorf as well. The Paleknight Mail that he’s looking for is actually close to Ormond, and you probably already picked it up unless you ignored the shining indicator along the way.
Also, if you missed it earlier, you should check out our guide on how to find the Growth Badge. This is a useful item for grinding that can be found in the abandoned mine. It will also show you where to find Hiro, who can also join you.
Outside the Castle
Upon stepping out of the castle for the first time, head over to the east, where you will find Cassandra’s Inn as indicated by the bed icon on the map. Talk to her to trigger a very brief cutscene and gain access to her services.
Once you are done at Cassandra’s Inn, go outside and run further to the east to meet with Nowa’s aunt Martha. She will give you news from home and eventually join the party after rambling for a bit.
Recruiting More New Party Members
Your goal at this point of the game is to find more people for the resistance. Once you are done exploring the base, head out through any of the exits to get to the overworld.
Once you are out of the base, head southeast to a place called Bounty Hill. Here, you can recruit Wyler by completing his quest, which will also result in his sister Marin joining the party.
Once you are done with the siblings, head back into the overworld and make your way towards the patch of trees to the west, directly south of your base.
Here, you will be able to recruit the lumberjack Kerrin. To save yourself a bit of time, try to get 20 lumber first so you can simply hand it over and get the quest over with. Having Kerrin join you will allow you to build the Woodcutter’s Cabin back home.
These people are just a few of the many characters that you will be recruiting over the course of the story. The game is not called “Hundred Heroes” for nothing!
Returning to the Castle / Finding Even More Members
Once you have recruited enough characters, returning to your base should automatically trigger a cutscene on what appears to be a balcony of sorts.
This will progress the story and mark the end of the Hoist the Alliance Banner Quest. After the cutscene, you will be given a new objective and your perspective will be switched over to Marisa’s point of view.
NOTE: If this doesn’t happen for any reason or you are struggling to recruit some of the people mentioned earlier, there are a few other people you can find and enlist out in the world at this point of the game. Try to get all of them if your quest refuses to finish.
Recruiting The Snarky Healer
If you head on back to Grum County, you can find a potential resistance member at Altverden Village. Go to the building directly east of the Inn. Here, you will find a doctor named Falward.
All you need to do to get him on board is by simply bringing him 15 healing herbs. You can actually buy these for relatively cheap at the Tool Shopkeeper at the western part of the village, so just go there if you don’t have enough.
Recruiting the Fashionista Armorer
Head back to the overworld and go to the north of Altverden Village. There, you will find yourself in Werne Village, where another potential ally awaits you.
At the western part of this village, you will find Frida. All you need to do is talk to her and she will join you after the conversation. Recruiting her will allow you to build the armor shop back home, which will also come in handy later on.
Recruiting the Wandering Swordsman
Another person you can enlist at this point of the story is Iugo, who can be found back in Eltisweiss. He is a pretty solid character to have in your party’s front row, so we recommend getting him as early as possible!
We actually already have a guide on how to recruit Iugo in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, so you should go and check that out for more detailed instructions.
Recruiting the Mighty Stone Lion (and Yusuke)
Finally, if you head on over to Grum County-North by passing through Fort Xialuke, you can get to the starting village of Arenside. You can recruit Yusuke at Fort Xialuke as well if you haven’t already done so.
Upon entering the village, just head straight to the west and you will find a small figure wearing a lion’s head. All you need to do to recruit him is to speak with him and finish the conversation. He will immediately join you without really asking for anything in return.
Recruiting every single one of the characters mentioned above should theoretically let you proceed with the story, so be ready to do some exploring. Consider checking out our guide on how to find Redthroat Ridge in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes as well, since you can recruit another character named Mellore there!
