Once you’ve managed to rescue Zelda and taken her to the Sanctuary, the Loyal Sage within will tell Link that he needs to get the Master Sword if he wants to finally defeat the evil wizard Agahnim.
Although you can go straight to the Eastern Palace, effectively skipping the entirety of Kakariko Village, the Elder is a vital find if you want to fully experience the game, background lore and all. But where is the Elder?
Where to Find the Elder Guide
The Loyal Sage inside the Sanctuary will loyally and sagely mark your map with the location of the Kakariko Village Elder – or Sahasrahla to his friends. However, do not be fooled, as when is it ever that easy?
Upon leaving the Sanctuary, you can journey straight west along the path to find Kakariko Village. But if you want to do some more exploring beforehand, there are some goodies to be found in the Lost Woods directly north of the village.
The goodies are a Heart Piece in a thief’s hut, and a Mushroom you’ll be able to turn into Magic Powder later on. Just make sure to avoid the thief wandering around, as he might try to steal some of your items!
Kakariko Village
There are several points of interest in the village itself, including two more Heart Pieces, two Magic Bottles, and some bomb-able walls for even more goodies, but where is the Elder?
When entering the village from the north, the very first building you encounter is Sahasrahla’s Cottage. Sounds like you’ve found him, right? Well, not quite.
Inside the cottage, you’ll find Sahasrahla’s Wife, who can give you more information about the Master Sword, but not where to find it or the Elder. Somewhat unconcerned about the whereabouts of her husband, she tells you that someone in the village should know where he is.
She’s right. Head to the southwest of the village, and you’ll discover Sahasrahla’s Grandson taking care of Cuccos. He tells you that the Elder is hiding near the Eastern Palace and will helpfully mark your map with the location. He’ll also advise you not to tell any bad people about this location, so make sure you keep quiet!
Sahasrahla’s Hideout
To make your way over to the Eastern Palace Compound where our Elder resides, you’ll first need to head back to the Sanctuary. Only instead of popping in to say hello, keep journeying east until you come to the river.
From here, head south, cross the bridge, and continue south again where you’ll encounter some Octoroks. Defeat them for easy Rupees and then continue south once more.
Before you reach the second bridge, head east and then north. Welcome to the Eastern Palace Compound! Expect more Octoroks and Armos in this area, as well as two Sword Soldiers, one in the southeast, and another protecting the entrance to the Eastern Palace. But first, the Elder!
From entering the compound, head due north to find the building that serves as Sahasrahla’s hiding-spot. Go inside, and you’ve found the Elder!
He’ll explain how to get the Master Sword, and then you’re free to plunder the depths of the Eastern Palace to find that all-important Pendant of Courage. Just make sure you return to Sahasrahla once you’ve got your prize, because he’s got some Pegasus Boots for you.
Have fun finding the other Pendants and defeating the evil Agahnim! Also, if you’re interested, we have lots of guides like this covering The Legend of Zelda: TOTK!
