Why Dead Space Remake May One of the Biggest Games of 2023

The return of a survival horror legend.

Back in 2008, EA and Visceral Games worked together and released a survival horror game called Dead Space. However, this was during a time where zombies (or space zombies) became an oversaturated market and gamers just seemed bored of having to fight the walking dead and getting jump scares every two seconds.

Dead Space flew under the radar for most people, as it just seemed like a generic third person horror game, but they soon find out that that would be a big mistake, as Dead Space became such an iconic name in gaming 10 years later. When people talk about survival horror in space, the name Dead Space will pop up.

Dead Space became so iconic, that it is now up there in the sci fi horror genre, right next to The Thing by John Carpenter. Who, by the way, wants to make a Dead Space movie (please make it happen, that is literally easy money)

But as with most of EA’s IP’s, Dead Space became infected. Not with Necromorphs, but with their greediness.

Sometimes, your enemy is the one closest to you.

Instead of letting Visceral Games do what they do best that give birth to such an amazing game, EA stepped in and wanted to make the game more actiony. This resulted in Dead Space 2. While Dead Space 2 was heralded as the best entry in the franchise, it made EA think that they can get away with pretty much anything.

So, with Dead Space 3, they made Visceral Games add co-op (which was honestly a great feature because it added more to the story) and turned the game into a military shooter by making Isaac Clarke do rolls all over the place. Not only that, but they added microtransactions into a single player game. Granted there is co-op, but that is entirely optional.

The fans weren’t happy with EA’s abundantly clear influence on the game, so the franchise was shelved and the people who made the games, Visceral Games, were shut down by EA. This was when EA stopped making single player games and shifted their focus to multiplayer, saying that single player games are dead.

As you can tell, this pissed off a lot of fans. But luckily, karma came to bite EA back, because their constant attempts at making a multiplayer game all failed (with the exception of some Battlefield games), EA decided to turn back around and go back to single player games.

That includes a Dead Space Remake.

Dead Space has never looked this good.

With the return of such an iconic franchise in gaming history, many players have rejoiced at seeing the familiar brown tint of Dead Space, the gory and bloody monsters, and the iconic health bar on Isaac’s back. While some have reserved judgement because of… well, EA being here, there is still some bit of optimism.

But of course, it is understandable while people would think that this game may not be what it is cracked up to be. In an age of where remasters and remakes are all we get; do we really need a Dead Space Remake? The short answer is yes, we do.

If there is one franchise that deserves another shot, it is Dead Space. This was a franchise that was cut down too soon, having only been around for 5 years (the original Dead Space released in 2008 and Dead Space 3 released in 2013). If it were given the same care and attention that Capcom gives to Resident Evil, then we would have had at least 6 Dead Space games by now (not including any of the spin offs).

Dead Space is also 10+ years old. While it still plays well, it would benefit from a remake. There are already so many changes from the original that makes this remake worth it. Apart from the graphical upgrade, Isaac Clarke is now fully voiced and interacts with the environment, as well as other characters.

The main man himself, Isaac Clarke.

In Dead Space 2 and 3, Isaac Clarke had a voice. But in the original Dead Space, he was a silent protagonist. They didn’t even show his face until the end of the game (you can do it in the beginning as well, but not a lot of people knew that). With Gunner Wright returning to voice Isaac Clarke, fans are ready to get a whole new experience that the original Dead Space did not have.

Not only do we have a fully voiced Isaac Clarke this time around, we now have updated gameplay that is an improvement from Dead Space 2. Not Dead Space 3, because I don’t want to see any combat rolls of any kind, but the amazing gameplay of Dead Space 2, just polished for a new audience.

Dead Space Remake may have a lot more things under wraps until the game comes out, so we can’t really say much until it comes out. But one thing is for sure: Dead Space is iconic. The announcement that a remake was coming was enough to break the internet, which is why Dead Space Remake is one of the biggest games of 2023.
