The first thing you want to do if you have the card is put some draw cards down like the Pot of Greed or Extravagance to get your combo cards. One of the best opener cards is the Apprentice Illusion Magician card.
The Apprentice Illusion Magician card can be special summoned by discarding 1 card. This in turn will allow you to fetch your Dark Magician.
Trap cards like the Magician Navigation and Magician’s Combination will help you special summon Dark Magician as well.
One of the benefits of the Apprentice Illusion Magician is that it can give your monster an additional 2000 ATK/DEF during damage calculation. This effect can help protect your Dark Magician or your dark Spellcaster monster.
You can also use the card for a surprise extra attack damage on your enemy. Simply continue using the opener cards to get your Dark Magician and use the Apprentice Illusion Magician to get more damage or protect your card.
