Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Race for Paladin

The best race for Paladins!

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an action-adventure role-playing game based on the Dungeons and Dragons tabletop game. It involves players choosing their characters from a plethora of different races available and delving into Forgotten Realms Universe to explore it while engaging in battles. This guide will focus on the best race for paladin players.

Best Race for Paladin

There are two different paladin variations in the game, but this doesn’t matter a lot since most of their base abilities are shared. However, what does matter is the race that is chosen since it greatly impacts your overall experience with the class and its mechanics.

Githyanki

The first race to consider is Githyanki which is a race of fearless warriors from the Astral Plane

Stats

The reason why this class is recommended is due to the plus 2 Strength bonus that they receive. This allows players to deal more damage per attack. An added bonus is the Base Racial Speed which is an added bonus since it allows the player to travel faster.

Githyanki stats

Githyanki also receives an Intelligence bonus, but this doesn’t matter much unless you rely heavily on spells as a Paladin player. Moreover, Githyanki also receives more Cantrips as they level up, which unlocks more potential for fun builds.

Ability Points

Regarding Ability Points, you can either choose recommended, which will allow you to get an overall balanced build, or you can manually allocate points to different stats. The latter is recommended since this allows you to tailor a much more fun experience.

Stats breakdown

We recommend going all into strength with 17 Points for more damage. Then allocate 14 Points for Dexterity and Constitution for good armor class and health points. Lastly, use 10 Points each for Wisdom and Charisma and 9 for Intelligence. This will allow your character to level up and obtain more Skill Points for enhancing stats.

Humans

Humans are a very versatile class to use in the game because they get a plus-one bonus for each attribute. However, the disadvantage is that humans do not have any fun mechanics like Cantrips

Stats

Due to the bonus, you can start the Paladin build with 16 Points for Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution. Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma are all allocated 9 Points making this a very well-balanced build overall.

Half Elfs

Half-Elves are even more versatile than humans due to the unique abilities that they possess. Two different subraces can be chosen with half-elves. The first is High Half-Elf, and the second is Drow Half-Elf. Drow Half Elf gives the player the Cantrip Dancing Lights, which helps to light up the nearby areas. This allows the player to land hits in the dark.

Drow Half Elf cantrip

However, we recommend choosing the High Half-Elf since this allows a player to choose a Cantrip. These can be Support or Resistance cantrips or Attack cantrips such as Fireball. This makes the elf class quite unique.

High Half Elf Cantrip

Since Cantrips are essentially spells, this means that players need to invest points in Intelligence at the cost of other stats to make sure that the Cantrip is utilized to its fullest potential.

Dwarf

Saving the best for the last, we have the Dwarf class, which is arguably the best choice for Paladins. We recommend choosing the Shield Dwarf subrace since this provides the player with an overall bonus of plus 2 in both Strength and Constitution. These are the two main stats of use for Paladins, making this the perfect choice.
