Throughout your Baldur’s Gate 3 campaign, you’ll encounter many challenges. Hell, even getting Shadowheart can be a challenge for some people who keep getting bad rolls. You’ll be able to free her again later on as long as you don’t have Lae’zel with you. So that’s a bit of a spoiler alert.
But getting her earlier is something that you would like to happen. Even with a Gith, you’ll be able to rescue and recruit her to your party, probably because she owes you a favor. Find out how to free Shadowheart from her shackles by reading the rest of the quick guide below!
How to Free Shadowheart Rescue Illithid’s Captive
You’ll be able to find Shadowheart aboard the Nautiloid ship shortly after having Lae’zel and an Intellect Devourer join your party. Get close enough to her pod and a cutscene will play where she begs you to free her. The other pods won’t have anyone interesting, except for the one in the next room you’re about to go to.
After you finish talking to Shadowheart, head east into the adjacent room. Go through the Sphincter (that’s the name of the door, what can you do about it) and run to the back end of the room. There you’ll find a Dead Thrall that has an Eldritch Rune. Use that and interact with the console next to Shadowheart’s pod for a chance to free her. Don’t forget to check the other Dead Thrall next to the Sphincter as it holds a gold key that leads to more loot!
However, you can still easily open the pod without the rune. Sure it’s trivial matter and you’ll still get to open the thing without any difficulty. But where’s the fun when you can’t do things your way? If you’re playing as a Sorcerer, Warlock, or Barbarian, you can easily bypass the rune and immediately free Shadowheart without any difficulty.
You’ll be able to think of multiple ways on how a Barbarian will interact with complex machinery. The rest is all up to your imagination.
