Magic items in Baldur’s Gate 3 always have a fair chance leaving those unattuned to The Weave rather confused, including budding wizards and sorcerers. This of course, includes heavy machinery like the Elevator inside of the Arcane Tower in the Underdark.
If you managed to get inside of the Arcane Tower, then you already know that the elevator isn’t working. You need that to work in order to get to the top, and the answer lies at the bottom. The same goes for this guide as well, keep on reading if you want this piece of machinery to start humming again!
How to Fix the Arcane Elevator in the Underdark
The Arcane Elevator is inside of the Arcane Tower. To fix the Arcane Elevator, you need to get to the bottom of the tower. The closest waypoint you can use to get there is the Underdark – Beach waypoint. Another option would be to use the mushroom circle in the Overgrown Tunnel.
This route, however, will require you to have already beaten the hag since you’ll need one of her Whispering Masks to access the area. We have a Hag Guide as well if you haven’t cleared that yet.
Once you’re in and have already dealt with the Arcane Turrets, head over to the southern balcony of the floor you’re currently on. You’ll notice mushrooms growing on the walls so go ahead and jump on those until you reach the bottom.
Another angle would be the broken balcony just outside of the tower where the second Arcane Turret is. You’ll have to drag one of the Sussur Blooms you placed inside to deactivate the turret here and cross safely.
Either way, you’ll end up in the same spot shortly. If you choose to stick to the tower, then make sure to grab some Timmask Spores and Tongues of Madness in the lower floor for Omeluum’s quest. Also, both ways will deal fall damage to your party.
Coming from the balcony will give you the most damage so have someone with Feather Fall prepared before you go further down. Don’t worry, you’ll get another copy of the scroll in the upper rooms once you get the elevator working.
When you get to the bottom, you’ll be at the backyard of the tower. You’ll have a locked door to your right that anyone with a high sleight of hand skill can easily lock pick open, and another Sussur Tree with Two Sussur Blooms to the left. Grab one of those and go inside of the room.
Funnily enough, there’s also a lever right next to the door when you get in. If you don’t have Astarion with you or anyone else who can pick locks, then use someone with Wild Shape instead to get inside. You’ll find the hole outside next to the mushrooms by passing a perception check.
If you want, you can also grab the Sussur Blooms from the Sussur Tree area just above the beach. You’ll have to enter turn based mode to run past all of the turrets though once you pick it up.
When you interact with the machinery, open your inventory. Drag one of the Sussur Blooms out in order to power the machine. A cutscene will play and you’ll not only bring power to the elevator, but the entirety of the Arcane Tower! This also deactivates the Arcane Turrets inside, so better grab those Sussur Blooms again. They’ll definitely have more uses later when you get to the top.
And that’s how you can fix the Arcane Elevator in Baldur’s Gate 3. Make sure that you read The Roads to Darkness once you get the elevator working. There’s other books and pieces of parchment you can read that will help you and your party survive. Be sure to check every floor carefully!
