Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Beat Steel Watch Titan Boss

What’s the worse they can do, fire missles at us?

Baldur's Gate 3 Steel Watch Titan Fight

There are some boss fights in Baldur’s Gate 3 that are just plain difficult. In fact, there are a lot of bosses with different mechanics and abilities that you’ll need to get used to. Some of us like learning about these mechanics as we fight while others want to know beforehand. In the later boss fights and nearing the end of the game, they can be quite unforgiving.

In this guide, we’ll show you the mechanics and abilities you need to watch out to beat the Steel Watch Titan Boss. We’ll also show you some suggestions on how to beat this boss. Now, let’s see what this enemy can do!

How to Beat Steel Watch Titan Boss

In the game, you’ll reach a point where you’ll have to go to the Steel Watch Factory. Some players go through this point in the game differently depending on their choices. For those who got themselves into this fight, you’ll want to know what to expect ahead.

Defensive Protocol: Bulwark

The boss will sometimes go to a Defensive Protocol: Bulwark. At this point, there’s no reason to attack it. You’ll want to attack the other Watchers in the arena and try to kill them.

While in this form, it can’t be moved and gains a lot of Temporary Hitpoints. The boss won’t invoke attacks of opportunity in this state, but it can do something else.

That something else is to drop a massive AOE circle. The boss will target an area, usually where most of your characters are, and on its next turn, it’ll fire missiles at the area.

Moving out of the area or using spells that negate damage completely can help here. When the attack finishes, it also makes the area burning and difficult terrain so watch out!

Hellfire Watchers

While the boss is going on the defensive, it’s great to defeat the other enemies in the arena. Just watch out because when these watchers are defeated, they will detonate. That means they’ll explode in a massive AOE. This explosion can really hurt, but luckily it doesn’t drop fire like the boss’ AOE.

Self-Destruction Protocol

When the HP of the boss reaches 1/3 of its max, not including temporary HP, it’ll start a Self-Detonation Protocol. This is just like the detonation of the smaller enemies, but it covers the entire arena.

If you see this happening, then you can either kill it before it detonates or run away! If you do run away, then go beyond the doors of the arena to make sure you’re not caught in the blast.

General Tips

Now that you know how the boss fight works, here are some tips in defeating this boss fight:

  • Being Level 11 or 12 when you fight this boss really helps as most classes get their highest spells in the game at that point. Level 11 or 12 Wizards even get 6th level spells.
  • The Level 6 Spell Globe of Invulnerability is a great spell to use against the boss’ AOE missile attack. Just make sure none of the robots get inside it though or they’ll be invulnerable as well!
  • The boss’ AC is actually quite low at 16 and its dexterity score is average. This makes spells that rely on Dexterity saves great against this boss.
  • The Explosions from the dying Hellfire Watchers can damage other watchers or the Steel Watch Titan.
  • The Spell Hold Monster works on the boss, making it a great way to deal critical hits.
  • You can cheese the fight by just placing a bunch of Smokepoweder and/or Oil barrels around the boss and igniting them like most fights.

With that information you can hopefully defeat the Steel Titan Boss in Baldur’s Gate 3. Now go out there and try your best! Make sure to go check out our guide on where to find the Blackguard Armor Set if you haven’t already!
