Armored Core 6: OS Tuning Guide | What To Upgrade First?

Time to customize that AC further!

Armored Core 6 Fight

Armored Core 6 surprised a lot of Fromsoft fans when it was announced. And now that it’s here, a lot of new people are trying out the game of this old series. This isn’t like Dark Souls or Elden Ring though and it’s quite obvious at first glance. There are a lot of things you’ll need to learn if you want to survive and thrive in this game, like OS Tuning.

In this guide, we’ll show you how OS Tuning works in the game. We’ll also show you some suggestions on what you should upgrade first. Now, let’s see how this mechanic works in the game!

OS Tuning Guide | What To Upgrade First?

OS Tuning is the fancy way of the game to tell you that you can unlock more of the game. From new abilities to new ways to customize your character and so on.

You can start this process after Chapter 1, and you can eventually unlock all of the upgrades in the game. The thing is, you’ll probably only get to half of the upgrades at the end of your first game and the rest will be upgraded on New Game+.

Armored Core 6 Boost Kick

So, what part of OS Tuning should you upgrade first? Well, the first thing you should go for is the Boost Kick. This unlocks the ability, as the name implies, a boosted kick to an enemy.

This is great for taking out trash mobs so you can save your ammo later on. It can also deal a lot of stagger damage if enemies get too close.

The next thing you’ll want to upgrade is your Core Expansion slots. You can only unlock one of the Core expansions in the game. If you’re a complete beginner in the game, then it’s highly suggested that you go with Terminal Armor since it’s a passive effect.

It’s basically a last stand mechanic where if your AP goes to 0, you’ll stay in the fight with 1 AP as well as invulnerability for a few seconds.

Armored Core 6 1 AP

For the next upgrade, you should go for is the Direct Hit Damage Modifier. You should try to maximize that to a total of +15% damage. The bulk of your damage on bosses will be when you stagger them so it’s great to have more damage on that front.

Now that you have the damage, you’ll also want some survivability. After upgrading your Direct Hit Damage Modifier, it’s best to upgrade your Repair Kits Optimization.

This just increases the amount of AP repair kits heal in the game. Think of repair kits as just an extension of your mech’s AP, so the better the repair kits the longer you’ll be in a fight.

Armored Core 6 Melee Weapon Drive Control Tuning

After getting all of those upgrades, you can finally try upgrading the weapon damage types. There’s plenty to choose from, be it Kinetic, Explosive, Energy or Melee. At this point in the game, you probably already have a preferred build so choose the upgrade that’s right for your weapons.

After getting all of these necessary upgrades, you can then move on to get the rest of the upgrades. Though at this point you might be at the end of the game already. Don’t worry since you can start a New Game+ and try to go for alternate endings and missions!

That’s how the OS Tuning works in Armored Core 6. Now go out there and pick the best upgrades for your mech! Remember that the game is best when you adapt to your enemy and switch up tactics from time to time.
