Stranger of Paradise takes a new path for Final Fantasy fans. You follow the story of Jack who is on a journey to purge the world of darkness. This guide will show you some tips and tricks you need to know before you start Stranger of Paradise.

Beginner’s Guide – Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

One of the key differences in Stranger of Paradise is the lack of a Stamina bar. You can freely dodge as much as you want, but you want to master your standard attacks first when starting the game. Standard attacks can help recover MP as well.

Another key thing you need to master first is Guarding. Guarding can help block standard enemy attacks, neutralizing damage. Keep in mind that you cannot keep guarding if your Break Gauge is low, as this will lead to a fail guard, leaving you vulnerable to attacks.

Now that we have the basics covered, let us start with the actual tips before you start the playthrough.

  • The Soul Shield is one of the mechanics you can use to block against enemy attacks. The difference between the Soul Shield the Guarding is that it will automatically reduce your break gauge as soon as you use it, whether you block an attack or not.

  • Make sure to use the Soul Shield sparingly to avoid depleting your break gauge. Successfully blocking an enemy attack using a Soul Shield will replenish your Break Gauge and stagger the enemy.

  • Instant Attack is a mechanic that allows you to copy an enemy’s move for a single attack. You can do this by blocking the enemy move with the Soul Shield and you should be able to use the special attack as your next move.
  • Soul Burst is another move that you can do in Stranger of Paradise. You can perform this move if your enemy has depleted their Break Guage. This will instantly defeat them and if used on bigger enemies, can propel the smaller enemies in an AoE.

  • You can change the stance or direction of your standard attack by adding directional buttons with it. Different weapons will give you different directional attacks so try experimenting on them.

  • Exploit the weak parts of the enemies and perform a wider range of attacks to break multiple enemy parts. Use this tip for stronger enemies to break and stun them, giving you an opening.

  • Do not forget your allies! You can change their weapons using the same menu when you change the equipment of Jack by pressing R1 or L1.
  • Once you unlock other jobs, you should look into Job Affinity. Each weapon and equipment will have a Job Affinity, and reaching a high Job Affinity will give you stat bonuses. You do not need to match your Job Affinity to your assigned job.

There you have it, these tips can be overwhelming at first but do not hesitate to take your time and learn the basics of the game as you progress.
