Once Human: Season Inheritance Guide – What Carries Over?

Once Human runs on a seasonal model, and if you have been playing since somewhere around launch time, then you are probably a week or two away from the novice season from ending. With that in mind, our stuff is going to be completely reset soon, but there are a handful of things that will carry over to the next season. In this article, we are going to try and explain what will be inherited and what will disappear forever.

Season Inheritance Guide – What Carries Over?

Before we go through all of what we know so far about how this entire system works, it is important to note that there is little official information about season inheritance. Until the developers go into further detail, we only have the Season Inheritance menu as a reference for now.

So, what exactly carries over to the next season? Let’s first take a look at the information already shared in the game:

As you can see, from the image above, players will get to keep most of their currencies (mainly excluding energy links). All gear blueprints, including upgraded ones, will also carry over, as well as your BP fragments, weapon accessories, and every mod.

Your character’s cosmetics will also be carried over, and this includes all the expressions / emotes as well as profile-related stuff such as the namecards, themes, and your entire friends list.

All your unlocked furniture formulas will also be kept in the new season, so any dupes you get in the next one can be disassembled at the Designer’s Workstation for some formula BP fragments. There’s more to this for dropped furniture, but I’ll get to that later.

It is also said that your main and side quest progress will carry over, though your map progress will be reset. This also doesn’t mean that you won’t have quests to do next season, as the developers have stated that there will be streamlined versions for inherited characters that will let you claim rewards.

As for what is either partially or not carried over to the next season, here is a brief list of what you don’t get to keep 100%:

  • All weapons and armor – More on this later.
  • Character levels – All players will be on somewhat even ground at the next season.
  • Map progress – Your exploration objectives and discovered teleportation towers are all wiped.
  • Energy links – These are lost for good.

Partial Inheritance via Eternaland

Now, here is where things get a little confusing, mainly due to conflicting information and/or a very likely case of things being lost in translation. Basically, all of your weapons and armor, as well as pretty much every crafting resource and ammunition that you have will be sent to the Eternaland depot.

You can access this by clicking on the Shop Order button in the Eternaland menu. Under the Export Resources tab, you will be able to view everything in your depot and how much material points you have to spare.

These material points will be used to transfer stuff to the new season, and I have no idea how many points we get at the start of the next season (looks to be 20,000 at the moment), nor can I tell you how much things will cost to transfer because we cannot select anything yet.

When the new season starts, all you have to do is select all the things you want to transfer and then press the confirm button. You can keep doing this until you run out of material points.

What About My Deviations?

So, regarding deviations, there is just no official confirmation as to whether or not they can be carried over or not. My advice to you is to sell unwanted deviations at Eternaland and get yourself some Astral Sand there, since you won’t be doing anything with those either way.

Now, there is some evidence suggesting that deviations might partially carry over to the next season and be subjected to the same rules as weapons, armor, and the like. But unfortunately, there is no official developer statement about this, at least as of writing this.

The best source I could find about this topic is a video on BiliBili that briefly showed somebody accessing the Eternaland depot and chucking an Electric Eel in the selection box.

If that is how it’s going to work, you will be spending a whopping 5,000 points for each deviation. For context, the Eternaland Depot currently shows a max of 20,000 points, so that’s going to be at most four deviations to carry over, assuming you won’t be transferring anything else.

Unfortunately, I do not speak Chinese, so I have no idea what the person in the video is saying nor do I know what version of the game they are testing this on and how. They seem to be just a regular content creator, but I can’t tell for sure.

Here is the link to the video for the news in case you are interested and can understand the language. Overall, I’d say maybe at most just carry over your best combat deviation. Personally, I’ll just farm them back.

Season End Checklist

This next section is mostly just general advice and a few personal tips, so feel free to adjust or even completely ignore some of this if you already have a set strategy in mind.

Keep Your Legendary Mods

A few things to keep in mind before the season ends is to keep some of your legendary mods. Rather than scrapping them for upgrade materials, you will want to have a lot of junk legendary mods lying around for the Mod Conversion feature.

This will unlock after the novice season (the one we are on right now). I am unsure how this will work come the next season, but I’m assuming this will let you reroll stuff for potentially better stats. It’s a way better use than scrapping them now.

If you want to upgrade your favorite mods right now, I suggest disassembling epic and below instead, as well as continuing to loot gear and weapon crates around the map. I worked on a guide on weapon and gear crates farming loops that you can try out for this purpose.

Bring Your Best Weapon

Assuming the costs won’t be too high, you might want to fully calibrate your favorite weapons to at least have less of a rebuild to work on in the new season.

If it doesn’t cost too many points, I plan on transferring at least my +10 power surge SOCR and my light striker stun baton for some quick and easy content clears as soon as I can equip them.

Since blueprints carry over, though, this is something you can honestly just skip since you will need to be around level 40 to equip tier 5 gear anyway. At the very least, save your best fully calibrated weapon if the cost is not too high, especially if it has really good rolls.

On that note, get all the weapon attachments that you haven’t acquired yet. You may as well clear all of this while you have the means to teleport all around the map.

Memetic Specialization Items

You might be able to transfer stuff made using memetic specializations, so you may as well have some lying around just in case. Assuming they don’t cost a lot to carry over to the next season, it might be worth it to have a few of the following:

  • Gold ingots, rare crystal sets, combo chipsets, etc. – These can give you a decent chunk of energy links at the start of the season.
  • A Solar Drill – If you are like me and have the Treasure Hunter and Solar Drill specialization, make sure to have one that is made using gold. These don’t really break, so having one at the start of a fresh season is a huge boost.
  • Gravel and Log On-the-Go + Backpack Expansion? – This is a bit of an iffy suggestion considering they expire after 14 days, but assuming you can bring them along, you may as well try for some QOL at the first few days of the season.

A regular logging chainsaw, which isn’t a spec item, might be worth it just to save you some time from chopping trees in the early game. Again, whether or not this is worth it will depend on what they will cost in material points.

Rack Up Currencies

Unless you still want to keep rolling the Wish Machine gacha or going for certain blueprints, start saving up all of your Starchrom. Who knows, maybe we will get some new stuff to buy with this resource.

Don’t forget, at phase 6 of the novice season, you will gain the ability to buy Starchrom crates at the season shop. That will get you a total of around 4,000 Starchrom at the cost of a couple hundred thousand energy links.

If you haven’t already, claim the seasonal goals rewards as well. As of writing this, you may or may not already be at phase 5, which means you have one last set of phase rewards to get, meaning even more Starchrom!

Aside from that, save up your Sproutlets and Stellar Planula. The latter can be used to get some weapon mods if you want, though I am saving both to get the seasonal limit of controllers and Starchrom crates from the NPCs when the next season starts.

On that note, controllers are said to not be carrying over. There is no official confirmation about this, as far as I know, but my suggestion is to start using them in pro mode stuff while you have some time left.

Place Dropped Furniture In Eternaland

For this part, I’m not entirely sure how this will work once the next season starts, but you can place your dropped furniture pieces into Eternaland. For some reason, if you dismantle them from this realm, they still go back to your regular season inventory.

This might be an oversight, but if you have a few non-formula pieces that you want to keep, it might be worth trying this method out to save on material points, since they are non-essential items anyway.

In the image below, my character is sitting on a chair that I got as a random drop from crates in the regular season. Behind her is a large frame that was also a random item drop. Demolishing them puts it back in the regular inventory as opposed to the Eternaland one.

Again, I am not sure if this will work as described, but since they are purely cosmetic stuff, it’s worth a shot to save some points. Worst case scenario is that they’ll be stuck in the creative mode space.

Save Your House Blueprint

If you are particularly attached to your current base, you can save it as a blueprint as these will also carry over to the next season.

However, keep in mind that this means it will also cost the same resources to rebuild. According to a developer, basic materials will be used for the structures if advanced materials are not available at the time of setting down the blueprint.

Unless you have a complex build, you can easily skip this step and just do a full rebuild in the new season. This is also true for builds that make use of a specific spot in the map, as you are going to be competing for spaces once more.

In Conclusion…

Overall, aside from the Season Inheritance notes within the game itself, and the reiteration of this in the official Discord and AI chat assistant, there is not a lot of concrete information to work with.

Because of this, we will just have to wait until the season ends to actually figure out the exact details of how inheritance will work. With that said, it never hurts to be prepared, so following the advice in this guide will undoubtedly be helpful to some degree.

While you are here, check out this guide on how to find all the toy formulas hidden in mystical crates in Once Human. As these are formulas that can be used to buff certain deviationsrecovery times, you may as well unlock them in preparation for the next season if you haven’t already found them!
