Obtaining Shanks
To start, you’ll need to go to Orange Town. To make things easier you’ll want to use the teleport from the Kuma NPC to get there. Once you’ve teleported to the docks area head to the right of the docks where you’ll see the NPC shown below.
That’s the NPC Conq Shanks, and he’ll give you 4 quests that you’ll need to complete to get the book for the Gryphon style.
The first quest is quite easy since all you need to do is defeat 20 Pirates. The catch is that you’ll need to defeat them using Sword Abilities, so no scythes or other weapons here! The pirates spawn all around Orange Town and the developers have recently added more spawns to help.
The second quest is to get an uncommon item called a “West Blue Juice” and to get them you’ll just need to open crates/chests dropped from enemies. Make sure that you put the item in your inventory and talk to Shanks to give it to him.
The next quest is to defeat The Clown boss which is a level 100 one. Make sure that you defeat this boss with sword abilities to make it count! This boss spawns every 15 minutes.
Lastly, we have the last quest for Shanks which is to defeat the Shanks Boss! To find him you’ll need to go to the area behind the Clown Boss. This boss has a chance to spawn every 30-35 minutes.
Once you’ve defeated the Shanks Boss you can then talk to Shanks again to finish the final quest. The reward will be the Manual of Gryphon’s Techniques which you can use to finally get the Gryphon/Shanks ability. Keep in mind that using the book will replace your current ability!
Moves Showcase
Now that you have the Gryphon/Shank ability you’ll want to know what the different moves are. There are a total of 11 moves for this one so you’ll have to learn every single one of them!
Q – Yasopp Assist
The first one is a simple quick attack which is called the Yasopp Assist. Yassop will spawn in front of you and shoot at the enemies you’re engaged with.
E – Crescent Style
The next move is the Crescent Style where you swing your sword a bunch of times at an enemy stunning them. At the end of the move, you push away the enemy making them ragdoll for a second.
R – Piercing Falcon
The next move is the Piercing Falcon where you charge up a strike and then rush towards the enemy stabbing them. It’s a fairly fast move that is hard to counter.
R+ – Lightning Draw
For the next move, we have the Lightning Draw which is an AOE attack. You raise your sword and circles will appear around you. After a few moments, lightning will strike the circle areas dealing damage to anything in them.
T – Divine Departure
The next move is Divine Departure and with a quick slash you ‘hold’ an enemy with an orb that damages them. This orb then explodes dealing more damage and knocking back the enemy.
T+ – Bolt Gash
For this next move, we have the Bolt Gash which isn’t as flashy as the other ones. You dash forward stabbing the enemy and dealing moderate damage.
Y – Earth-Rending Sever
The next move is the Earth-Rending Sever which starts with a slash that arcs in front of you. Your character will then slam your sword on the ground shooting out three slices in front of you in a tight cone.
G+ – Final Departure
This is one of the two moves that has a cutscene. Final Departure is a move where you hit someone with a sword slash and a cutscene will play. You then slam your sword into the enemy in the cutscene dealing massive damage!
G – Superior Slash
This is the second move with a cutscene. The Superior Slash move is where you make a tornado of sword slashes and stun the enemy in the middle of it. This damages them multiple times and sends them flying at the end.
H – Thunderous Crash
For the next move, it’s another AOE where in Thunderous Crash your character jumps up and slams their sword down. An AOE will start from where you land and will deal damage to anyone around you.
H+ – Thunderous Shatter
For the last move, we have the Thunderous Shatter where you swing your sword and cause an explosion in front of you. This can deal a lot of damage to an enemy, and can be quite fast!
That’s how you can get the Gryphon/Shanks style in A Universal Time and all of its moves. Now go out there and try to get it yourself! Do you want to get Haki shards in the game? Check out our How to Get & Use Haki Shards Guide for more details!
