The very highly anticipated action RPG (no, it’s not a soulslike) Black Myth: Wukong is finally out, and it introduces a lot of mechanics that should be familiar to those who like games such as the 2018 version of God of War. Crafting is crucial to your success in the game, and this includes brewing all sorts of medicine items. Here is a quick guide on how to do that!

How to Make Potions / Medicines | Damage Buffs, Resistances, and Damage Negation

First up, you will need to defeat the boss known as Lang Li Guhh Baw first. We have a guide on how to beat Lang Li Guhh Baw that you should check out too. This part is essential, as it is part of a quest that will unlock the medicine crafting mechanic.

Once you have the recipe dropped by the Lang Li Guhh Baw frog boss, you can bring it over to the NPC named Xu Dog to complete his brief side quest. This is not the end of his quest chain, but it will unlock the option to make medicine at any of the shrines.

As far as unlocking the mechanic goes, that is pretty much all you need to know. Basically, just get all the way to the start of the second chapter of the game and do a little task for Xu Dog.

Actually crafting medicine is a whole other beast, as you will now need to find recipes and ingredients to actually make anything. You do get a few starter recipes to work with, though.

As a freebie, Xu Dog also teaches you how to make the Evil Repelling Medicament, which is the formula you acquired from the boss earlier. Listed below will be the recipes you can make at the start, including the one we just mentioned:

  • Amplication Pellets – Requires 1x Snake-Head Mushroom and 1x Aged Ginseng. It will temporarily increase your critical hit chance.
  • Tiger Subduing Pellets – Requires 1x Snake-Head Mushroom and 1x Purple Lingzhi. This will slightly increase your damage dealt upon consumption.
  • Ginseng Pellets – Requires 1x Licorice and 1x Aged Ginseng. When consumed, this will give you a bit of focus over time for a relatively short duration.
  • BodyWarming Powder – Requires 1x Fire Bellflower and 1x Jade Lotus. When used, it will briefly increase resistance to chill and also remove that status if you are affected by it.
  • Antimiasma Powder – Requires 1x Tree Pearl and 1x Jade Lotus. Upon consumption, it will remove poison and also give you a brief moment of higher poison resistance.
  • Shock-Quelling Powder – Requires 1x Gentian and 1x Jade Lotus. When used, it will give you a brief moment of heightened shock resistance. It also removes shock if you are affected by it.
  • Body-Cooling Powder – Requires 1x Fragrant Jade Flower and 1x Jade Lotus. When used, it will remove the burn effect and also temporarily increase your burn resistance.
  • Evil Repelling Medicament – Requires 1x Licorice and 1x Jade Lotus. Upon consumption, this will increase your damage reduction for a relatively long period of time.
