There are a lot of tough bosses, both required and otherwise, that you can encounter in the insanely hyped up Black Myth: Wukong action RPG. Among these is the Wandering Wight, which you can encounter very early in the game, though should you? If you do decide to face it, then continue reading for some tips on how to do so!

Wandering Wight Boss Weaknesses & How to Beat Guide

Before getting to actual combat tips, it should be noted that the Wandering Wight is an optional boss. This means that you can explore and start leveling up first before taking it on.

It can be a particularly tough fight at a low level, even if the mechanics of the encounter aren’t that complicated. If you want a bit of an advantage going in, it is highly recommended that you check out our guide on how to defeat the Guangzhi boss first.

Not only will that get you a bit more reps in the combat department, but the reward for beating it (Red Tides transformation) will actually be pretty useful for this fight. Regardless, whenever you feel that you’re ready to take on this big-headed guy, below will be some tips for you.

Wandering Wight Attack Patterns

First up, let’s cover the attack patterns of this giant baby-like creature. Don’t let his size fool you, as this guy can be surprisingly agile. Here is a list of attacks to watch out for:

  • When the Wandering Wight swings its body back, it will do a couple of sweeping attacks. Try your best to dodge backwards. He can be staggered out of this move, but he might continue with the follow up either way.
  • The Wandering Wight can sometimes crouch down. This means that he is winding up a clap attack in which it will take a few steps forward and slam both hands together. Dodge away at the right time to avoid damage.
    • There is a variation in which he crouches down but will instead leap and stomp at your current location, so stay vigilant. He might also sweep after this.
  • Whenever the Wandering Wight raises a leg, he will stomp in front of him. He can follow this up with any of his other attacks, including a mere stomp with the other leg.
  • When he starts to wildly swing both arms and slam the ground, you must sprint far away. This will cause the ground in front of him to burst, and more sections of the ground in a larger area around it will do the same over time.
    • This move will cause rocks to start floating in the air. Once these rocks fall back down, do not approach him yet. A final explosion will go off afterwards in the same area of effect.
    • A heavy attack might be able to cancel this move before he can slam the ground during the initial telegraph. You are going to need a focus point and good timing, though.
  • He will occasionally recoil and charge up energy in his hand. After a brief moment, he will then extend this hand towards you and create a massive shockwave in a line in front of him. Dodge to the sides for this.
  • Finally, when he runs towards you while spinning his arms, he’s going to try and slam the ground near you for a smaller ground bursting attack. Fairly simple, just dodge away and wait for the follow up shockwave to hit before approaching.

General Tips for the Fight

The Wandering Wight can be very unpredictable, as he tends to mix up his attacks by stringing together different parts of its move set. As such, the best advice we can give you is to keep your distance and wait for him to recover from a move before you start attacking.

Aside from that, patience is the key, especially early on, as you will likely be a bit underleveled when you first encounter this boss. Chip away at his health whenever he finishes one of the moves listed above.

Immobilize and using heavy attacks is also going to be really helpful during this fight. He will often stagger and trip on the ground after some solid hits. Take this opportunity to apply more pressure with light attacks or even charge up a heavy.

Upon defeat, he will drop a spirit that you can pick up and use in combat later on. You will first need to upgrade your gourd to do this, but that is a whole other topic that is beyond the scope of this guide.

To summarize, though, the reward for beating this optional encounter is (eventually) going to be the ability to transform into the Wandering Wight and slam the ground with your large head. Unlike the Red Tides ability, this is just a momentary transformation.

And that is everything you need to know about the whole Wandering Wight optional encounter, as well as a brief explanation of the reward he drops.
