Attack Types of Black Wind King
Another thing that will help you through the fight with Black Wind King is to know his attack types. Knowing them will help you react better to these attacks.
- Jump and Double Spin: The Black Wind King’s most common technique is to jump into the air and land with a spear thrust. He will also do two spin attacks. If you time your strike correctly, you can usually go in for a rapid attack followed by a perfect dodge.
- Black Wind: The Boss’ signature move involves him turning into a black wind and moving around the arena. The boss becomes immune to attacks during this time, so concentrate on avoiding it. Casting Immobilize before he changes will take him out of the changed condition.
- Fire Breath: If you see the Black Wind King lift his gourd to drink, move to the side. This is when he launches a fire breath strike in a wide sweep in front of him.
- Healing: The Black Wind King possesses a healing power that he will use several times throughout the fight. However, if you attack him while he is drinking from his gourd, you will be able to disrupt this ability.
- Air Burst: After the Black Wind transformation is completed, the boss appears in the center of the arena, triggering a massive explosion. Staying out of the AoE will protect you from it.
- Six-hit Combo: If you notice the boss focusing black wind on his spear, he is preparing for a lengthy combo. The first two attacks are rapid, but he takes a brief pause before the third overhead punch. It is followed by three fast strikes. The attack also generates ranged projectiles that you must dodge.
- Vanishing and Spear Throw: During the fight, the boss creates an illusion of himself and transforms into black wind. Make sure to watch out, he can throw spears while unseen.
- Four-hit Combo with Spear Vault: In addition to the six-hit combo, the boss has a four-hit combo that begins with him thrusting his spear into the ground and jumping into the air. He will do damage in a large AoE around him in mid-air, and an explosion will ensue upon landing. It is best to get some distance as he does this trick.
Black Wind King’s Weaknesses
The Black Wind King is lacking in health, so play as aggressively as possible. If you have the stamina, you should always attack when you are near him. Remember that dodges might interrupt and cancel your basic melee combos, so do not overcommit to your attacks.
When the boss transforms, you can use Immobilize to stop him and make him materialize again.
When he completes his change, he always emerges in the center of the arena. This allows you plenty of time to prepare for a powerful attack from a safe distance.
Starting the Fight
The Black Wind King will begin the fight with a jumping spear thrust, briefly hesitating in mid-air before lunging forward and using the Black Wind to propel his spear into the earth in front of him as he lands.
He will often follow this jumping strike with two spins of his spear until it lands behind him, giving you a great opportunity to launch your own attack while he recovers from the move.
When he powers up his spear with the black wind effect, you can expect he will move near and perform up to three huge slash attacks in quick succession. Always wait until the third strike lands before attempting to counter, and only use your Spirit strike when you know you have enough room to land the blow.
Be cautious while attempting to fight him after that, as his favorite close-range attack is to take a fast gulp of his own gourd before breathing flames in front of him. A quick dodge will get you behind him, allowing you to continue your light attack combo while he sprays the empty area in front of him.
If you see him elevate one foot, instantly immobilize or rush to the side, as he will try to stun you with a rapid kick before charging ahead with his spear for numerous attacks that are very difficult to escape once he starts.
His most annoying attack will be when he turns into the Black Wind itself. You will need to keep an eye out for the wind’s short “bursts” that indicate a charge attack directly at you, which can occur in two fast dashes back and forth.
When you see the wind fly up, go away from the center of the arena, where the Black Wind King will return in a tremendous explosion. use this opportunity to heal up or apply any consumable medications you think will offer you an advantage.
Defeating the Black Wind King
After losing nearly half of his health, the Black Wind King will become even more aggressive with his trademark wind. He will depart altogether in a gust rather than turning into a wind. When this happens, retreat to replenish your stamina, and be ready for his appearance, which will most likely occur in the middle of a combination attack.
These can include a length combo in which he usually starts with a shove before stabbing his spear into the ground in front of him. Then grabbing the spear to launch himself off his feet before quickly slicing downward at you. And then slamming his fist down for a massive explosion that you should avoid.
After his next Black Wind strike, be prepared to transform with the Red Tides Spell. Charge up a dash attack the moment he falls in the center of the arena.
Counter each of his teleports after his attacks are finished. Then, you will soon beat him. This will cause him to flee. However, in his escape, he will leave behind some of his Black Wind, which the Keeper of the Mountain will harness and pass on to you. It will you a powerful new spell: Cloud Step.
