Core Keeper 1.0: Best Tips & Tricks To Know Before Playing!

Core Keeper full 1.0 version is near its release and it will also come to consoles. Right now is the best time to start playing it but before you do that, check out the tips & tricks mentioned in this guide. They will help you get started the right way!

For those of you who are familiar with Terraria, you will feel right at home in Core Keeper. But if this is your first time playing a game like this, you will be easily overwhelmed. The tips given below should help you out with that.

Best Tips & Tricks To Know Before You Start Playing!

Tip #1 – Don’t Worry Too Much About Your Background

Background - Core Keeper 1.0: Best Tips & Tricks To Know Before Playing!

When you are creating your character, you will also need to choose a background. There are a total of 10 backgrounds to choose from. Background determines what tool or item you start out with along with specific perks.

Backgrounds can have a decent impact in the beginning of the game such as starting out as a Fighter will help you out in early combat or becoming a Chef will let you cook right away. But in the long run, these backgrounds do not matter. So choose a background that appeals to you and do not think too much about it.

Tip #2 – Set up a Farm as Soon as Possible

Farming - Core Keeper 1.0: Best Tips & Tricks To Know Before Playing!

Keeping your hunger at bay is going to be one of the many challenges you will have to face in Core Keeper. You will get food randomly throughout the game world but simply relying on that will result in starvation most of the time which further results in nasty debuffs.

That is why it is recommended you build a farm as quickly as possible. You won’t be able to create something fancy in the beginning but there is going to be plenty of time for that later on. Simply get a hoe and a watering can. Use the hoe to plough the earth and then plant the seeds. Afterwards water the seeds with the watering can and then wait for them to grow.

Getting seeds in the beginning can be a bit tough so I suggest getting your Gardening skill to level 25 so you can invest your skills points in the “Grateful gardener“. When you invest 5 skill points into this perk, there will be a 25% chance that you will get your seed back when harvesting.

Tip #3 – Make Good Use of Cooking

Cooking - Core Keeper 1.0: Best Tips & Tricks To Know Before Playing!

Construct the Cooking Pot the moment you get the resources for it. In the cooking pot, you can mix two ingredients to create a food with buffs. A lot of different recipes are available in the game so it is encouraged to try different ingredients combinations. The recipes you unlock will be recorded.

Whether you are casually venturing around or going to fight a boss, the buffs provided by these food items will help you out immensely.

Tip #4 – Place Down Markers on the Map

Map Markers - Core Keeper 1.0: Best Tips & Tricks To Know Before Playing!

During your explorations, you might come across something important (such as ore boulders or a boss) but you may find yourself unprepared. In those cases, simply put down markers on your map so you can easily return at a later time. The game gives you 4 icons to choose from.

Tip #5 – How to Travel Around Faster

Railway System

As you explore, your map will get bigger and walking from one place to another will start to take a lot of time. To get around this, you can use two methods.

The first method is using Ancient Waypoints that you come across. Activate them and then you can use it to fast travel to other waypoints which you have activated before. You can also break them and then place them in another location.

The second method is creating railways networks connecting all important locations. You can craft Rails and Minecarts through Railway Forge (which is crafted through Copper Workbench). Not only is this a faster way of getting around, your food bar will also not go down when you are inside a minecart.

Tip #6 – Best Way of Getting Ores

Mining Boulders

As you break down walls, you will get various ores. But these are very limited in number. The best way to get ores is through Ore Boulders. These Ore Boulders are a little rare to find but once you find one, you can get 1800 raw ore from it before it is consumed.

To mine an Ore Boulder, you will need Drills. You can place a total of 8 Drills on a single Ore Boulder. In the beginning, you can use Crude Drills which can be simply powered through a Lever. Once you get the ores, use the Furnace to create bars which are used a lot in crafting.

Tip #7 – Place Workbenches the Right Way

Adjacent Chest Placement

If you place a chest adjacent to a Workbench, the Workbench will be able to access the items stored in that chest. The best way to go about this is by placing a chest in the middle of all the workbenches. This can be very helpful during crafting as you can place all your crafting materials in one chest.

Tip #8 – Dig up Hidden Treasures

Hidden Treasures

During your ventures, you will find X marks on the ground. These X marks can be dug up by a shovel to get some loot. Some of the loot you can get are seeds and items which can be sold to merchants.

Tip #9 – Don’t Throw Away Green Kelp

Fishing

Fishing is also a good way of getting food and especially ingredients for cooking. It is also pretty easy to do, you simply use a fishing rod near water. And once you catch something (which is shown by an exclamation mark on the top of your character), use your fishing rod again.

As you fish, you will also get a lot of Green Kelp. You may not have a use for it now but later on it can be used as a food source for a specific cattle. So for the time being, store them somewhere safe until they are needed.

Tip #10 – Defeating the First Boss

First Boss Fight

You will come across many unique bosses in the game with each demanding a separate strategy to beat them. To help you get started, I will provide information on the first boss along with some tips on defeating it.

Glurch the Abominous Mass is generally considered the first boss as it is the closest to The Core. You will find it in an area covered with slime at a distance of 65 tiles from The Core.

Glurch’s fighting style consists of jumping towards the players, dealing damage upon landing and leaving a trail of slime. At start it has a damage range of 6 tiles which increases to 15 tiles when it receives damage. The best way to deal with Glurch is to keep your distance and use a ranged weapon.

These were all the tips I had for you in this guide, I hope you found them helpful!
