How to Connect Paths in Frostpunk 2

Struggling to put down trails? Check this guide out and learn how to set them up!

Frostpunk 2 is already out on early access for people who bought the deluxe edition, or everyone depending on when you read this. There are a lot of mechanics both old and new to learn with all of the changes they made in this highly anticipated sequel, and this includes having to establish and connect colonies all around the frozen wasteland. Here is how to connect paths to and from New London and/or other colonies!

How to Connect Paths

So, you have found a suitable location for a new colony and now have to connect it to the main city. To do this, you will have to establish trails that your colonists will be using to get there, but doing this is not as straightforward as it may seem.

Take for example the Old Dreadnought in the story mode. At a certain point, you will be tasked with establishing a colony at that ruin, and once you have the required number of resources and frostland teams, you can now click on the Connect Path option.

Upon doing that, you will now have to actually set up the trail leading back to New London. You likely won’t be able to make it a straight line, so the ideal thing to do is keep it as simple as possible.

You see, while creating a path, you can click on the parts of the world map that have black dots hovering around them to set down a pin. For each pin you put down, the resource cost and time needed to make the trail will go up.

You have to do this until you can connect whichever location you need all the way back to the main city, which will have its own pin. Once you make it to the pin at New London, you will be able to confirm and start the creation of the trail by clicking on the check mark at the destination.

Again, it is important to remember that the resource cost and time to create the trail will vary based on factors such as the complexity of your route. Check the image below for an example, which shows that even just a couple of additions can double the cost of your path.

Once you click on the check mark, that is pretty much it. Your workers will immediately get started on creating the path that you mapped out, and you can cancel this at any time if you so desire.

To be as efficient as possible, always check the costs and build time and see whether or not it is possible to lower them. After all, resources and manpower are hard to come by in these trying times, and those little bits of extra stuff you save can easily go towards other important tasks!
