Are you a new player to Odin: Valhalla Rising? Well, so was I! I’ve come up with a complete starter guide to help you understand the early mechanics of the game (so you won’t be as confused as I was). In this article, you will learn all the necessary features and in-game items to look out for as a beginner. This was also tailor-made for players who are new to the MMORPG genre. So with that in mind, grab a notepad, maybe some chips, and let’s dive right in!

When you’re done reading this guide and want to learn more, we have a guide that also teaches you the best way to earn Diamonds in Odin Valhalla Rising! Be sure to check it out.

Beginner Essentials in Odin Valhalla Rising

Re-rolling

Unlike other gacha games that encourage players to reroll on units to progress more easily and quickly, Odin: Valhalla Rising does the opposite. Instead, long-term progression is incentivised and rewards the player more. This is great because you can freely start the game without having to worry about unnecessary details like re-rolling!

Selecting Servers

Want to play with your friends or members of your guild? Always remember to coordinate and make sure you are on the same server! This is because Odin: Valhalla Rising does not support cross-play servers. Do this before you begin your journey to do quests.

Classes

Odin: Valhalla Rising offers a selection of classes to choose from for your characters. They are the following: Rogue, Priest, Sorceress, and Warrior. Each class offers a different type of playstyle and benefits during gameplay. After choosing a class for a character, you will not be able to change it for the remainder of the game. If you don’t know which one to pick yet, don’t worry! The game allows all players to create three more characters (which you can use to experiment with which ones you prefer).

Quests and Leveling Up

You should only focus on playing the main questline when starting out. Here, you can expect the full tutorial while also understanding the early leveling system. An important thing to note is Odin: Valhalla Rising’s unique feature: the Quest button. When you activate this, the game will automatically navigate your character, initiate dialogue, and engage in combat. This feature benefits newer players who might have a hard time knowing where to go and how to progress.

Auto Combat System

Speaking of auto combat, this feature lets you enjoy the game while you are busy with other activities. When activated, you not only let your character do the heavy lifting for you, but you also actively gain experience from farming as well!

Another feature you should know about the game’s auto combat is the “No Kill Steal” option. You are generally encouraged to turn this on to prevent taking advantage of other players’ hard work. I recommend using this to avoid pissing off others and unecessary PvP situations.

Items

Just like in other MMORPGs, Odin: Valhalla Rising features a wide range of items to help during your journey. Always make sure to stock up on Potions to either heal or buff your characters—you’ll never know when you’ll need them. Equip your items in your Quick Slots section, which can be found at the lower right of your screen. With just a press of a button (or a swipe if you’re on mobile), you can activate them very easily!

AFK Farming

Similar to the auto combat system, Odin: Valhalla Rising also has a cool feature called AFK Mode. Even when the game is closed, your characters can automatically farm for 8 hours. So, even when you’re away, like in class or at work, you can still level up and become stronger the next time you hop into the game.

Upgrading Gear

As you progress further into the game, you should aim to get high-grade gear. These items generally have better stats and have the potential to become stronger with enhancements. To do this, you will need Enhancement Stones and Gold, which you will pick up along the way. Finally, make sure not to go past the safe enhancement value when attempting to upgrade. You can easily break your gear, losing it forever. Do so with caution!

Buying Skills

Similar to gear, you should also make sure to buy skills for your characters. Before you do, make sure your character meets the minimum level requirements of your desired skill before buying. These skills can either buff your damage, heal the party, or offer effective utility. Having them can drastically change how you play the game, especially when you get stronger later on.

Map Progression

Jotunheim in Odin: Valhalla Rising

While you can do side quests, I highly recommend that you finish the main questline first until you are able to reach Jotunheim. Once you’re there, this allows players access to more content and more ways to strengthen their character.

Guilds

Strength in numbers is the name of the game for newer players. Joining a Guild allows you different gameplay bonuses while also being able to deal with mobs together. If you’re also a sociable player like me, this is the best way to meet more people and have fun. It is an online game after all! Who knows, you might even meet stronger players who could carry you throughout quests.

Have I missed anything? This is everything you need to know when starting out in Odin: Valhalla Rising! The game is overall a relaxing experience where I never once felt the urgency to farm for experience or anything like that. If you haven’t already, I suggest you also give it a try. Now that you have a good idea of how things work, come back another time and enjoy the game right now. Although if you liked this short guide, you’ll love looking at the other ones below 🙂
