The latest update in TYPE://SOUL update introduces a terrifying new zone: Hell, featuring a multi-layered endgame region packed with lore, bosses, and brutal progression challenges. But before you can start farming Ring 1 or chasing your True Bankai, Segunda Etapa, or Sklavrei, you’ll need to pass one critical checkpoint: the Highway to Hell. This guide walks you through everything you need to unlock Hell, including the quest location, crystal collection, gatekeeper boss fight, and tips to avoid getting your slot locked inside Hell. Let’s dive in (but don’t fall in the pit 🔥).

Hell Guide Highway Quest Location & How To Enter Ring 1

To begin your descent into Hell, you’ll first need to find the mysterious Hell Door and the NPC who starts it all. The questline kicks off in Karakura Town, just behind the basketball court near the Trader NPC.

Hidden slightly to the right, you’ll spot a large stone gate, and a character named Qas J. Ward, he’s your ticket to the Highway. But be warned: he won’t talk to you unless your character is strong enough. That’s where the requirements come in.

Requirements: How to Start the Hell Quest

Before you can enter Hell, your character must meet the following requirements:

  • ✅ Unlock Bankai (for Soul Reapers), Full Resurrección (for Arrancar), or Volt (for Quincy)
  • ✅ Reach Elite Grade

These are non-negotiable prerequisites. Without them, the gate won’t open and the NPC that starts the quest won’t even acknowledge you.

Hell Door & Quest NPC Location (Where to Find the Hell NPC)

After reaching Elite Grade and unlocking your second form, make your way to Karakura Town. This area is just across the bridge and directly in front of the Trader NPC.

  1. Head across the bridge toward the basketball court
  2. Look behind and slightly to the right of the court
  3. You’ll find a large stone Hell Door
  4. Nearby, you’ll see the NPC Qas J. Ward

Can’t find him? Press the comma key (,) to activate map markers and look for “Qas J. Ward”.

Speak to him, and if you meet the requirements, he’ll teleport you to a new area called The Highway To Hell.

The Highway To Hell Quest – Step-by-Step

Once you speak to Qas J. Ward, you’ll be teleported to the Highway, the first layer of Hell.

Highway in Type Soul: Hell Guide Layer 1 Quest Location

The Highway To Hell is a dark, winding zone filled with eerie visuals and a lurking danger. It’s here that you’ll need to complete a short questline before you’re allowed to enter Hell: Ring 1.

  • This zone has no PvP locking—you can’t get locked for dying here.
  • There’s a roaming boss called the Sweeper. Touch it, and you’re instantly dead.
  • Be cautious. There’s a pit of fire at the start. Don’t fall.

Step 1: Collect Crystals

Once you spawn into the Highway, Use , to locate the NPC Felis. From the entrance, head to the right side to find him. The area is very dark, so turn up your screen brightness if needed.

He’ll give you a quest to collect 3–5 glowing crystals scattered around the Highway.

Here’s what to know:

  • You’ll get a crystal icon on your screen when one is nearby.
  • The crystals emit a soft glow, but are still easy to miss.
  • The Highway map is small, so you’ll memorize it quickly with a few laps.

The cave is small enough that you can memorize it in one or two full loops. After collecting all crystals, return to Felis. He’ll vanish once the first task is complete.

Step 2: Find the NPC Again

Now your next task is simple. Find the NPC again somewhere else in the cave. He has moved to a new location, and you just need to track him down.

There’s no new danger introduced in this part. Once you locate him, the quest finishes automatically. Felis now initiates a 2-minute hide-and-seek challenge.

Finishing the Highway quest in Type Soul
  • You must find him again somewhere else in the cave within the time limit.
  • If you fail to find him in time, you’re instantly killed and must restart.
  • Once found, the screen will flash purple, and the “hand” UI effect disappears—this confirms the quest is complete.

You’re now ready to unlock the gate to Hell: Ring 1.

Finding and Unlocking the Hell Gate

After completing Felis’ mini-quests, head deeper into the cave until you find a hole in the wall. Go through, and you’ll eventually come across a large, sealed stone gate.

  • If you haven’t done the Highway quest, the gate will remain locked.
  • Since you’ve now cleared it, the gate opens and reveals a new chamber inside.

✅ Since the Highway quest is now complete, the gate will open.

Gatekeeper Boss Fight: Weakened Hell Guardian

Behind the gate, a powerful boss awaits: the Weakened Hell Guardian.

He’s no joke, so here’s how to prepare:

  • Bring long-range Kido for a safer fight (yes, cheesing works)
  • Avoid melee unless you’re confident in your dodging
  • Winning rewards you with a Book 1 Fragment (likely tied to the Soul Weaver quest)

Once defeated, you’ll see a cinematic and the text: “The gates were disturbed… Hell let loose.”

You’ll then be teleported to Ring 1 of Hell.

Welcome to Ring 1 of Hell

You made it. Ring 1 is the first combat layer of Hell, filled with powerful mobs, hidden NPCs, and the next step in your journey toward True Forms.

Hell currently consists of 7 levels:

  1. The Highway
  2. Ring 1
  3. Ring 2
  4. Ring 3
  5. The Maze
  6. The Library
  7. Purgatory (coming soon)

Each layer becomes progressively more dangerous and complex.

Slot Locking in Hell (IMPORTANT)

Yes, your slot can be locked in Hell, but only under specific conditions:

  • You must be gripped twice by a player (not NPCs).
  • If locked, you’ll be forced to fight your inner self to reclaim your slot.

So while dying in PvE is safe, watch your back around other players.

Wrap-Up & Final Tips

  • To access Hell, make sure you have Elite Grade and either Bankai, Full Res, or Volt unlocked.
  • The Hell NPC is located at the basketball court across the bridge from spawn.
  • Complete the Highway questline by collecting crystals and finding the hidden NPC.
  • Defeat the gatekeeper boss to gain entry into Hell: Ring 1.
  • More layers and updates are expected soon, so keep an eye out.
