The Lyngbakr is a mythical creature in Norse Mythology. In God of War Ragnarok, this behemoth was captured by Mimir for Odin and imprisoned for all eternity simply because the Creature’s blubber provided excellent fuel for Odin’s Oil Lamps.

With Mimir as your companion in God of War Ragnarok, it is no surprise that he has a bout of conscience and asks for your help in freeing the beast.

Doing this favor in the typical God of War fashion will immerse players with stunning visuals and semi-difficult puzzle-solving.

In this guide, let us walk you through how to free the beast under the Weight of Chains Favour in God of War Ragnarok.

Guide on finding the Watchtower Key for the Weight of Chains Favour in God of War Ragnarok

The Sub Quest was activated in Svartalfheim’s Bay of Bounty area. After finding the Watchtower with its doors locked, ride the canoe and paddle your way to the island in the area shown in the image above.

Head towards the island. When you reach the docks you will need to go up the tower. Head right and break the fire pot nesting on top of the rubble and make your way to the top.

Watchtower Key Location

To get to the Watchtower Key, follow the runic symbols etched on the path. Clear the enemy spawns blocking your way and use the Leviathan Axe to destroy fire pots on the rubble to create paths to lead you up the island and to the tower.

Get up the Tower

Once you reach the top, look for a crank to lower the tower platform. After you move the platform to your floor, use your Leviathan Axe to freeze the gear into place.

Follow the runic symbols at the edge of the cliff to make your way to the tower platform. Once you step on it, retrieve your Axe to unfreeze the gears and raise the platform to reach the top.

Jump from the platform and crash your way down the floor. Defeat the enemies guarding the area and investigate the chest to get the Watchtower Key.

Watchtower Location

Head back to the canoe and make your way to the Watchtower. Once you reach the shore, head straight ahead to the ruins and look for runic symbols to guide your way up to the Watchtower.

Follow the Rune Symbols

You will have to do a bit of climbing in this area. Once you reach the top, search for the Watchtower doors and open them with your key.

Summon the Lyngbakr

Head inside the Watchtower. Look for a drum with a broken stand. As Kratos, interact with it for Him to raise the drum off the ground and let Freya shoot the drum to make a noise.

Free the Monster

The Sea Monster will be summoned to the surface. The next task will be to break its chains. There are three restraints you have to destroy to free Him. The left din, the right din, and the tail.

Breaking the First Chain

Head back down to the canoe and make your way to Lyngbakr Island. Follow the Runic Symbols and clear enemies in your path. Mimir will guide you to the first pillar that supports a massive chain. Use your Chain Sword to slice the pillar and reveal the shackles of the monster’s fin.

Break the chains by throwing your Axe and continue following the path to the next area.

Break the Second Chain

Make your way across to the other fin. To do that, follow the path until you find a chain for you to rappel to the other side.

Search for the second pillar and slice it with your swords. When the shackles are visible, break them with the Axe to free both fins of the Monster.

Free the Monster’s Tail

The Tail will be a bit harder to free. Follow the path carved with runes to take you to a Cache of firepots. Grab one and jump across to the platform on the other side and go to the edge to look for the Dock.

Throw your fire pot on the rubble to create a path to the docks. Navigate your way down to the docks and take the canoe to the back of the island.

There are map navigators to where you should go so you won’t get lost if you follow them.

The Last Chain

Dock on the back of the island. From here, follow the runes and climb your way to the top of the cliff. Clear the enemies guarding the area and head towards the final pillar and break it.

Vantage Point

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to break the chains from here because the monster’s tail will be blocking your path. Head to the opposite cliff where a chain is attached to another cliff and rappel your way to the other side.

From this view, you will now be able to see the chain tying the beast’s tail. Break them to free the beast.

Breaking All 3 Chains

The monster has been chained too long and has been accustomed to its chains. After speaking with your companions, you push off and leave the Monster to its fate.

Completing the dialogue will unlock the Lyngbakr data into your codex and complete the Weight in Chains Favour in the game.
