Even if you manage to stay alive while the deck is stacked against you, you’ll need to perform many things if you want to succeed and survive.

In this review, we will be talking about what this game has to offer you. We shall split it into Pros and Cons sections so that you can know what is the good and the bad sides of things and then we shall give you our opinion and rating. Let’s get started.

Is It The Best 2D Scavenger/Survival Game? – ZERO Sievert Review

ZERO Sievert is a top-down brutal and merciless shooter that just got released in Pre-Alpha mode on the 15th of November. There are so many things that are to be added to the game and you can actually see the developer’s roadmap.

It is brutal, merciless, and very dark. This means that if you’re into games where you will want to take your time and a simple mistake will get you punished and killed, like DayZ or Escape from Tarkov, you will thoroughly enjoy this game.

Pros

There are so many good things that this game has to offer! Here we will mention the biggest and most noticeable amazing things.

Gameplay

ZERO Sievert has a very good gameplay system. Basically, you will start out in a bunker and not just be thrown out in the world with absolutely nothing. This will make you feel as though you are in a living world and a sort of easy start that will allow you to have a safe home and ambiance that will in contrast make the outside world much scarier.

It is a very brutal game that will get you killed over and over again if you aren’t careful. That is the real beauty of these types of games though. You will have lots of weapon choices, lots of maps to explore, and amazing interactions with the NPCs for shopping and things.

The AI is the part where the gameplay is simply the best or the worst. The AI is so good and so powerful, some might say overpowered even, that will make you hide in cover and think about every step that you take.

There is a scavenging system that will be a way how you can make a profit and actually make an impact with those rewards in your base building.

Crafting & Upgrading

You can give your weapons some fancy upgrades. Inventory management is important because there are many things to find and use. There might be too large in number, but getting and using them is actually fun. Your character keeps getting better and better, both in terms of skills and gear. So, do you think this game is great?

Base Building

The base building in this game isn’t anything to brag about but still is an interesting little way to actually see the worth of your scavenging and the danger that you take in the outside world. You will be investing and making your own little safety area with the things that you found yourself.

You won’t get that boring feel where you’re just looking for gear nonstop to overcome and better the enemies in the world. Instead, you will be turning in those dangerous hours into materials that will last and you can use as your base.

Visuals & Atmosphere

Without a doubt, the most beautiful thing about this game is the atmosphere and the ambient feel that you’ll get. Yes, it is 2D but if you aren’t looking for the Call of Duty explosions and blood effects this game will leave you stunned.

You are a Hunter coming from a bunker and scavenging the world, or what’s left of it. You will really feel as one and the world visuals will have a lot to do with that.

Cons

It is a Pre-Alpha game so it is expected to have some sort of Cons.

Bugs

Oh yes, the core of every PreAlpha game. You will get your fair share of rough edges in terms of bugs and glitches in this game.

The thing about it is that you will basically do everything possible to survive and not get killed so as to not lose your gear. But every once in a while you will get killed because of a bug, for example, getting shot through a wall, that will make you want to pull your hair out. It has issues at the moment so you can wait for a while until they get fixed.

AI Reaction Time

Some might not complain about this saying that the game is supposed to be hard and brutal, but once you play it long enough you will realize that the enemies and NPCs that you’ll find in the game are basically aimbot machines.

The reaction time of an enemy that has spotted you are 0 seconds so make sure that every shot counts. You will get killed over and over again by simply having an enemy completely unaware of you and then turning around to one shot you in your forehead with a small pistol.

They can also see like panthers in the night. You will be completely unaware while they can spot you through bushes and even sometimes over obstacles too!

Hitboxes & Cover

Sometimes you will shoot at enemies while preparing your shot for minutes only to see that it went through them without damaging them. Then, you’ll have moments at times where you are shooting at enemies and it is hitting an invisible wall.

It certainly isn’t all that game-breaking but it is really annoying especially when you get killed and it is not your fault.

Summary

ZERO Sievert is a very fun game that has a lot of replayability if you really are into these kinds of games – brutal and merciless. You will have a lot of fun getting the feel of being that low-life useless hunter and growing into a much bigger badass scavenger that will be mowing enemies down wherever you might see them. It is Pre-Alpha and it does have a lot of work that needs to be put into it for making it work but still an overall pretty fun game.
