Sea of Thieves is an action adventure game developed by Rare and published by Microsoft that released in March 20, 2018. The game had a very rough launch, as players’ main concerns with the game is that there is nothing to do besides the core gameplay, which is just being a pirate. While being a pirate is fun, it’s not fun if you barely have anything to do. Fast forward four years later, and Sea of Thieves is still being supported, now entering season 8. In this guide, we show you what you can expect in the coming season.
Season 8 Complete Guide – Sea Of Thieves
New on demand PvP battle mode
Sea of Thieves always had a PvP mechanic in the game, but there was never a dedicated PvP game mode. After years of asking for a dedicated PvP game mode, seasons 8 introduces the new on demand PvP battle mode.
The way this works is that you approach a Hourglass of Fate, that is located in your ship’s Voyage Table, and you will be presented with a choice between two factions: Servents of the Flame or Guardians of Fortune. Once you have selected a faction, you will now have to fight for that faction when you fight in PvP. If you want to switch factions, you can. You are not locked to a faction when chosen.
In the PvP mode, you can choose to go on the defensive, where enemy players from the opposing faction attack you, or you can choose to go on the offensive, where you attack the opposing faction’s enemy players. Basically, you can do quests and other things if you have no plans on hunting enemy players, but you will be open to attacks from enemy players if you do not go on a hunt.
New factions and their benefits
With the introduction of the new factions, Servants of the Flame and Guardians of Fortune, you can unlock more rewards as you increase your Allegiance level with them. From ship cosmetics and others, increasing your Allegiance level will yield you great rewards, especially if you hit level 100.
Hitting level 100 with the Guardians of Fortune faction will grant you access to a secret hideout in the back of the Athena’s Fortune hideout. There, you can get a “curse” that turns you into a ghost. The same thing happens if you reach level 100 with Servants of the Flame, but they turn you into a skeleton instead.
