DayZ’s Had A Disaster Launch, Is It Any Good Now?

Dayz is a zombie survival simulator that is multiplayer and has a persistent world that the players can play inside and leave their mark on it by either building bases or clearing it out of zombies. This zombie game has been in the making since 2012 as it came from the much earlier mod of Arma 2.

If any of you remember the old days from 2013 and 2012 when the first initial release of Pre-Alpha Dayz came out, you can definitely know the pain that Dayz gamers had to go through. The game was in the utmost terrible state at the time and its progress of it was very minor close to none.

Dayz got a lot of pre–purchases that made the game devs basically rich. With time this meant that they had no reason to work and it really ended up that way. A lot of the developers simply quit the game and left it to rubble for a lot of years. With every patch that got released, there was a bigger new issue released alongside it. Although that is the case, Dayz has one of the most hardcore fanbases that stuck with it for all of these years.

Today this zombie survival game is getting around 20 to 30k players active at some times of the day, while back in the early stages it even hardly touched 1k at times! The reason behind that is that after 10 years of development, there is still something that the game got added and improved upon.

The biggest thing that Dayz got as a positive was the release of the modding community, after years of the players crying out for it. In a lot of aspects, the modding community has done a much more significant and better work than the game developers themselves! That is even true today and if you do want to check out DayZ after years of waiting, definitely go for a modded server with an active admin system.

DayZ functions the same as it did at launch, but today it feels much livelier and player friendly. There are a lot of more things and content to be doing inside of it while also having much more players in servers too. You will be experiencing a zombie apocalypse as you should with the ability to build bases, craft items, shoot guns without stuttering and lag, throw grenades, drive cars without lag spikes and server crashes, and many more things.

The same problem still persists today as it did 10 years ago. The developers still have problems hearing the issues of the game and the players have no voice at all. Cheaters are running freely, and random bugs in some areas of the map still persist, getting stuck on invisible walls and such. 

With that being said, DayZ in 2023 is nowhere close to Dayz 2013. There are very interesting things to do like having your own base, flying a helicopter, not being stuck in an animation, a whole variety of community servers like roleplay-focused ones, factions of war, markets and vendors as well as safe zones throughout the world.

It is a very fun zombie survival game to try out as it is right now, just make sure that you’d pick one of the top-rated servers as well as some quality modding community to get the real experience of just how good DayZ can actually be.
